The 21st century equivalent of Beatle haircuts, purple mohawks and nose piercings.

Anything to cheese off the parents.
Let's get right to it.

I try very hard to put these things in perspective, and certainly every generation has its fads.  But the whole saggy-pants-showing-your-JoBoxers thing strikes me as quite silly, even for a fad. Fashion that makes it difficult to walk/run seems doomed from the start, never mind if little old ladies in Virginia are offended.

Actually, you can't tell from this article, but I think this is aimed more at females who wear hip-huggers that expose the tops of their thongs.  It's a pretty sleazy look.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

it's pretty funny when you see a guy in full hip hop regalia, walking by himself (at schools I teach at) and nobody is looking.  He has to pickup his pants, just like a woman would lift the bottom of her skirt to climb the stairs.

Alicat called in on this subject & got herself heard on the KFOG morning show, & we discussed on our cell phones after I heard her.

My take on how stupid this is:  If a whole bunch of rebellious youth (of whatever racial background) adopt an image taken straight from the hip-hop/gangsta video hall of fame, isn't it the whole point to make yourself look like an outlaw?  So making this actually illegal is going to have what effect, really?

Unless (switching to paranoid ACLU lawyer mode) this is just a pretext to give police another 'legal' reason to hassle young people of color.  Which is not out of the question, least of all in Virginia.

Thanks, I have been waiting for someone to comment on them.  They are all legitimate, appearing in a little book I have titled, Squad Helps Dog Bite Victim.  They were collected from newspapers around the nation by the Columbia Journalism Review.

Today's quote was inspired by the Carly Fiorina exit.

a propos of this, this morning my mother was telling me how her pants keep falling down. she said she's starting to look like the boyz on the street. her take on it, "and then they want to wear dingy drawers! it woudn't be so bad if their drawers had flowers on them, or something."
