Is "Loan Me a Dime" as popular in other parts of the country?

I highly doubt it.  I've never heard LMAD on this coast, and to underscore how treasured it is there in SF, I heard it at the Pilsner while I was there!

In musician circles, this is perhaps Duane Allman's most famous non-slide guitar solo, so it penetrates the national consciousness in that regard.

Indeed, to go back even further than Gaz, Boz was popular on NYC progressive radio long before Silk Degrees -- songs like "We Were Always Sweethearts" and "Dinah Flo" were big "turntable hits" even as they were faltering on the singles chart. But I'd never heard "LMAD" on the radio until I moved out here.

Speaking of, this set was the first time I've heard King Biscuit Boy & Crowbar since the early '70s. Wonder what posessed Dave to dig that one out?

14 April 2006: the Tax/Money Set
« Reply #48 on: April 15, 2006, 02:05:20 PM »
Man, I would LOVE to hear We Were Always Sweethearts in a 71 set some time--it's probably been played but damned if I can remember it. That said, I'm shocked that anything besides LMAD won BOS. (And did Dave mention the 30s-vintage tune (chorus was "plenty of money and you" or something along those lines) that he played between Dire Straits and the AbFab clip in the backsell? It was only about a minute long, if that. Very catchy, never heard it before.

Oh and here's the Money Setlist:

4/14/06 - FRIDAY!!!  Uh oh...Tax time...Today it's all about M-O-N-E-Y!!

Beatles (yeah!) - Tax Man (Best of $et!!)
O'Jays - For the Love of Money
Dire Straits - Money for Nothing
Kinks - Sunny Afternoon
Randy Newman - It's Money That Matters
King Biscuit Boy - Badly Bent
Barret Strong - Money
Boz - Loan Me a Dime
Robert Cray - 1040 Blues
Ray Charles- Busted
BONUS TRACK:  Who - Goin' Mobile
Let's get right to it.

Darryl doesn't have either the 2002 or 2004 sets, but just for comparison here's '03 & '05:

4/15/03 - Tuesday!  TAX DAY!
1. Barrett Strong - Money
2. Randy Newman - It's Money That Matters
3. Robert Cray - 1040 Blues
4. O'Jays - For the Love of Money
5. Ray Charles - Busted
6. David Crosby & Graham Nash - Take the Money & Run
7. Pink Floyd - Money
8. Kinks - Sunny Afternoon (BEST OF SET!!)
9. Beatles - Tax Man
10. The Drifters - Money Honey

4/15/05 - FRIDAY!   Uh oh, it's Tax Day!!!
1. Kinks - Sunny Afternoon
2. Flying Lizards - Money
3. Barrett Strong - Money
4. Robert Cray - 1040 Blues
5. Randy Newman - Mr. President, Have Pity on the Working Man
6. Boz Scaggs - Loan Me a Dime (B-O-S!!)
7. O'Jay's - For the Love of Money
8. 10cc - Wall Street Shuffle
9. Ray Charles - Busted
10. Beatles - Tax Man

Just looked thru my files and found that I have the 2002 Tax Day set:
1. Money-Pink Floyd
2. Money (That's What I Want)-The Flying Lizards
3. Money (That's What I Want)-Barrett Strong
4. Loan Me a Dime-Boz Scaggs (Best of Set)
5. For the Love of Money-O'Jays
6. Taxman-The Beatles
7. The 1040 Blues-Robert Cray Band
8. Busted-Ray Charles
9. Did You Steal My Money-The Who
10. It's Money That Matters-Randy Newman

There seem to be a core of 6 tunes that get played nearly every year: the Barrett Strong, Boz, O'Jays, Beatles (of course), Robert Cray, and Ray Charles; with Pink Floyd's Money, Sunny Afternoon, and It's Money That Matters only skipping a year now and again (although last year's Mr. President was a welcome substitute from the Randy Newman catalog).
Let's get right to it.
