HOLY SHIT

This is the first time I'm hearing this B.J. Thomas since the late '70s.  I can't believe it!  Love the poppier countrypolitan.

Sad trivia: BJ was so coked-up when he recorded this, he has no memories of the sessions.

different well-known songwriters:

The Thomas hit by Chip Moman; the Rich by Billy Sherrill. But country songwriters steal from each other as much as anyone.

"Direct from Branson, Missouri" ... Bob barely disguising his contempt for ol' BJ there, it seems.  Yeah, Branson's for people who can't handle their drugs, but he should hate the game, not the playa.

P.S.  HWYPASDSWS doesn't hold up so well, does it?  Nice enough melody, and appropriately understated vocals, but there's not all that much to the song -- he even repeats half of the first verse for the second verse -- hardly enough to make it a Number One.  Still, was very nice to hear and relive a moment (that's another of the first songs I distinctly remember hearing).

Hey, it was the '70s.   :wink:

iirc, '74 and '75 are the years that hold the record for the most different songs hitting #1 (35 each -- that means a lot of songs being # 1 for only one week, and HWYPASDSWS was one of 'em).
