And Don Pardo "ah those were the days" / "another great one" closes out the sets...

ETA: Is this AL's way of making up for not playing any pop cheeze in a recent '87 slogfest?

The reviews are in and the set went over well.  Lots to like. Early voting putting Jackson Browne and Andy Gibb in first place tie. Rita and the English Elvis also pulling in votes.

the votes so far:

Jackson Browne - You Love The Thunder - 4
Andy Gibb - I Just Want to Be Your Everything - 4
Rita Coolidge - (Your Love is Lifting Me) Higher and Higher - 3
Elvis Costello - (The Angels Wanna Wear My) Red Shoes - 2
The Kinks - Juke Box Music - 1

Looks like the Rita Coolidge was our lone bustout -- everything else has appeared at least once ("Dr Love" actually got played twice before in the first AL era).  Dr Buzzard and Andy Gibb date way back to Morey days.  Thrilled that AL played "Way Down" again -- it was a request of mine for ages and I think she first played it shortly before she left for K-Fox. It's one of the most underrated 45s of the '70 IMHO.

1977... ugh.  I didn't hear anything this morning that I want to hear again.  I'm skipping
the replay, which is unusual for me.

Rita Coolidge "(Your Love Has Lifted Me) Higher And Higher"

ETA: I came this close to requesting Dolly Parton's version.

We seem to be venturing into cheeze territory. Pretty sure this falls into the Bustout column, but I don't think that alone can save it.
Outside of the fact it's a great record?
 :) ;) :D

I don't hate it, but a LOT of people do, calling it (a) a desecration of the Jackie Wilson original and (b) a blatant attempt to turn Ms. Coolidge into a Linda Ronstadt clone, commerically speaking. El Lay session-ism gone amuck, and like that. The "mellowed-out remake" became a subgenre all its own at that time (see also JT's "Handy Man").

TANC: WLNG just played the Jackie Wilson version, a masterpiece in every way. (and "the greatest 45 ever" per Dave Morey)
