I will say that RR's pro-love selections have mostly been un-sappy. I mean, we coulda got some real schmaltz.

Wonder if my set delivers...?

Missed most of it due to a 10am meeting (caught the end of the Cure song) so will listen later today when it gets posted. Meantime, I'll give the Cap'n's offering a spin.
Let's get right to it.

and as a areminder, here's RR's set from last year -- generally greeted with derision, as she billed it as a countdown of the top ten love songs of all time.

Quote
10. Percy Sledge - When A Man Loves A Woman
(Commercial -- Tom Shane)
9. The Pretenders I'll Stand By You
(Movie: Ghost)
8. Righteous Brothers - Unchained Melody
(Commerical -- It feels like love)
7. Peter Garbiel - In Your Eyes
6. Sonny and Cher - I've Got You Babe
5. The Postal Service - Such Great Heights
(Movie: All About Eve)
4. Billy Joel - Just The Way You Are
(Movie: Valley Girl)
3. Modern English - I'll Melt With You
2. Elton John - Your Song
1. Something - The Beatles

One of my favorite Valentine's Day sets was Dave's 2003 "sex" set:

2/14/03 - Friday!!  Today on 10 at 10 it's...SEX (for Valentine's Day)!!

1. Beatles - Why Don't We Do it in the Road
2. Tubes - Don't Touch Me There
3. Commodores - Brick House
4. George Michael - I Want Your Sex
5. Digital Underground - Sex Packets
6. Barry White - Never Never Gonna Give You Up
7. J. Geils Band - Give it to Me
8. Marvin Gaye - Sexual Healing
9. Frank Zappa & the Mother's of Invention - Dinah-Moe-Hum (Best of Set!!)
10.The Chakachas - Jungle Fever

10cc "I'm Not In Love"

I Hear FP complaining already.

I think the most valid complaint was that this song is actually a pro-love song, and it appeared in the set in an "anti-love" slot (if we're alternating pro, con, pro, con...)    The protagonist is protesting falsely, and he's very much in love.  This song always confused me as a kid.  Plus the interlude where the woman sings "Be quiet - big boys don't cwy.. big boys don't cwy... big boys don't cwy..."   What the hell?

Dickie Goodman's Mr Jaws used this bit.

Thomas Dolby "I Love You Goodbye"
Well, at least she's stayed on theme so far.

And this is an impressive song, FF it may be.
agreed, if I may also throw in my two bits against the LN appellation!
Not LN. FF
I understand, I was hoping to stave off any LN!

This is its ninth appearance, which is the low end of the middle-range in terms of frequency.
Six of those have been post-DM, including two last year, which would account for the impression
that we've been hearing it a lot lately.  Still, BOS -- this is a beautiful song with some poignant
significance for me at the moment.

"I'm Not in Love" -- well, OK, but Dave's anti-love selections were a tad more creative. (And I say that as a big 10cc fan, generally.)

Anti-love?  Actually, the way this song strikes me is that while the guy is trying to tell the girl that
he doesn't love her and was just using her, the reality is that he has fallen for her.  I'm not even
sure that she's there -- it's like he's practicing his speech in front of the mirror, but he (and we) can
see that he can't even convince himself that what he's saying is true.  Elvin Bishop has the more
well-known song on this theme, and there are others.

This is exactly the kind of sappy-sounding song that I usually dislike, but for some reason I've
always enjoyed this one.  BOS.

ETA:  I shoulda read ahead... I see Tinka Cat has already made my point.   I agree.

BOS "Love Stinks", of course.  Essential in a set like this.
LNmax

I second the LN, but I have to give Renee points for this set overall.  I haven't thought much
of her theme sets so far, and while not great, today was good.  In particular, with a couple of
exceptions, she avoided the usual Valentine's Day choices.  It certainly should be easy enough
to do that -- what other topic could possibly be more celebrated in song than love?

And you're both right, but I think Renee thinks it was an anti-love song  ;)
