Did she really just compliment herself on digging deep?
And did she say "Maynard and James Keenan"? That would suggest extreme uncluedness, but maybe I misheard it.

LOL.  (I had to go look it up.)

Also interesting, according to Wiki:

Quote
Inspired by Bill Murray's performance in the 1981 comedy film Stripes, Keenan joined the United States Army, with the intention of having the G.I. Bill fund his dream of attending art school.[1]

That's like being inspired to join the Marines by watching reruns of Gomer Pyle.

Although there were some nice moments, overall I thought today's set was too much of a mish-mash.
I think a more interesting idea would have been to go back to the origin of Veteran's Day:  Armistice
Day, and a show with ten songs about peace.  Of course we would have had the LN Give Peace A
Chance
, but there might also have been gems like Tom Paxton's Peace Will Come.  (Do I hear
the wheels turning in CapnJack's head already?)

"Give Peace A Chance" wouldn't necessarily be an LN if I were compiling this -- I'd either do a medley
of several different rehearsals of the song by Lennon and company during the Bed-In or choose a live
performance.  :)

TANC: I have a Paxton best-of sitting in front of me that I just got -- the Rhino collection from 1999. Sadly, it does not include "Peace Will Come". I was a big fan of his back in the early prog-FM days, when he was a staple -- "Whose Garden Was This?", "Talking Vietnam Pot Luck Blues", "Forest Lawn" and many others.

You'll recall that WNEW frequently played many of the tracks from his Peace Will Come album,
including the title track, The Hostage (about the Attica Prison riot), Jesus Christ SRO,
and the whimsical I Lost My Heart On A 747.

Paul Simon's "Armistice Day" would've been appropriate too.

Other obvious choices include:

Cat Stevens - Peace Train
George Harrison - Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth)
Elvis Costello - (What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love & Understanding?

Did she really just compliment herself on digging deep?

To be fair, she was talking about the Filter tune when she mentioned digging deep, which was one of the three she had to come up with to replace the hip hop stuff from the Paste list. So she *did* dig for that one. But considering 70 percent of today's set was cribbed from someone else's homework, yeah, talking about "digging deep" seems more than a little ingenuous.
Let's get right to it.

the subj matter certainly is more veteran-centric, but I thought a theme set of music by vets was pretty good.  Did RR copy some of her set from other sources?  yes, I bet she did.  who doesn't do that?
