18 July 2013: it's... a "classic" (1989)
« on: July 18, 2013, 08:25:34 AM »
They just said Renee is "on holiday". So a rerun would seem to be the order of the day.

I'll be out of the office from 9 to 3 so whatever it is, i'll miss it.

And 1989 is the year, Love Shack was the TOTHK. Feh.

Now we;re hearing Phil Punkinhead, Another Day in Paradise. And if there was something in between, I was otherwise occupied.
Let's get right to it.

WTF? A Sleep Train ad in mid 10@10?!?!

ETA: Major screwup, apparently both the stream and the terrestrial FM signal are airing ads ad nauseam. I've bailed to the Sound, where I have already seen what their 76 set has in store thanks to their website. No surprises here, but Nick Lowe "And So It Goes" is coming up.  Woot!

And it seems like a fairly lame rerun to boot. Even Snipeville is low on chatter, although FP has already alerted us to his going to the Sound. All we're missing is somebody saying "blorf" (which may have happened already), and DB checking in to say she'll be going to E Street Radio.

And it turns out I missed the Nick Lowe on the Sound after all. Apparently the list they post is more of a guideline; they don't actually adhere to the order they post. Whatevs.

It appears this is the set that's being rerun, from Dec. 18 of last year.

Quote
1. B-52s - Loveshack
2. Phil Collins - Another Day In Paradise
(Movie: Driving Miss Daisy)
3. Shawn Colvin - Steady On
4. The Smithereens - A Girl Like You
(News: Bush the Elder hates broccoli)
5. Neil Young - Rockin' In The Free World
6. The Replacements - I'll Be You
7. The Blue Nile - Headlights On The Parade
8. Love & Rockets - So Alive
9. Elvis Costello - Veronica
(TV: Pee Wee's Playhouse)
10. XTC - Mayor of Simpleton.
Let's get right to it.

So this re-run must have been one snafu after another. I tuned back in during the Blue Nile tune, but there was a significant gap between the Love & Rockets and EC songs, and then a whole lot of dead air following Veronica. Finally Rosalie opened the mic and apologetically said the set was ending prematurely, and she'd play the XTC later (which she did).  I am wondering if they were trying to recreate the set on the fly or something.
Let's get right to it.

Oy vey.  Glad I missed, but jeebus: '97, '90 and '89 back-to-back-to-back? Tomorrow better be a '70s set (presumably another "classic").

Love the comments on the KFOG FB page about the 10@10 clusterfuck, including one from our own urth.

Meanwhile one Foghead wanted to know what song #8 was (uh, Love & Rockets, "So Alive", which I think appears in 75% of all 1989 sets). And another guy begged KFOG to tell him who does that "I Will Follow You Into The Dark" song. Seriously, THESE are the people KFOG is programmed for, not us.

FP has already alerted us to his going to the Sound.

I'm in Southern California and am listening to the Sound's PM 10 at 10 over the air. What are the chances they WON'T play I'm No Angel? So far it's been Stand by REM, Crumblin' Down by Cougar Mellencamp (does anyone know of a movie tie-in here because this is an even bigger miss than Renee's ever made, except for the infamous "Did she do it on purpose?" Don't Stop in '87), a Wilburys song I've never heard Last Night(?), the Robert Plant that goes "lighten up, baby, I'm in love with you," and now Van Hagar. Wow, AOR was even worse in the late '80's than whatever KFOG was then.

The second half was What I Am, Slowhand's Crayified After Midnight, Jane Says, David Lee Roth's Just Like Paradise, and live Pride (In the Name of Love) -- one-half of Rattle & Hum was live, wasn't it? A lot of classic rock stations won't touch Eighties metal, which takes a lot of the rock possibilities off the table.

BTW, I'm aware of the Occasional Sound Thread but preferred to post here because of the original post from which I quoted.

(my emphasis)

I have a similar thought when the most over-played LN song of a 10@10 set wins BOS.
