Just looking at some of the song titles here and on FB, and it seems like a repeat.

Apparently no less than 4 of these songs were in our 2nd-most-recent '98 set in Sept. (BNLs, Alanis, Cake, and Fastball).

I understand AL's got her own taste, just like everyone else, which leads to the exclusion of a lot of acts (Madonna, notably). I just wish she didn't like the swing revival so much.

1/10/12 - Tuesday! Finding The Way Back to 1998!

 1. Fastball - The Way
(Movie: The Big Lebowski - The Dude gets a beeper)
 2. Cake - Never There
(News: President Clinton apologizes to the country)
 3. David Gray - Please Forgive Me
 4. Alanis Morissette - Thank U
(TV: Frasier - Sharing a Tic Tac)
 5. The Brian Setzer Orchestra - Jump Jive an' Wail
 6. Barenaked Ladies - One Week
(Movie: There's Something About Mary - "Are you going to the prom?")
 7. Everything - Hooch
(Movie: There's Something About Mary - 7-Minute Abs "7-that's the number!")
 8. Garbage - Special
 9. Lucinda Williams - 2 Kool 2 Be 4-Gotten (B.O.S!)
(Movie: The Big Lebowski - Dude: "He's got emotional problems, man!" Walter: "You mean beyond pacifism?")
10. The Goo Goo Dolls - Slide

Full rantings after the replay.  But this looks like one of the most unnecessary sets to date. :-\

I think Everything is a breakout, and I didn't realize "Please Forgive Me" was from 1998 (I recall KFOG playing it as the followup to "Babylon"), but otherwise your point stands.

Yeah, Everything was the sole good choice.  I think the Goo Goo Dolls and Lucinda Williams are technically bustouts too, but on those two, who's counting.  I love Please Forgive Me and would more than welcome it on 10@10 but it's about as non-1998 as the Gwen Stefani version of Southside is non-1999.  Maybe if Luke Crampton was the host he could get away with it, but in the states White Ladder wasn't released until 2000.

Hmm...looks like I didn't miss much today.  Apart from Lucinda, this is pretty much the crap I avoided on the radio.  I, too, don't get all the swing revival love.  Then again, I don't get all the love for Cake either.

This is the seventh visit to 1998 (Counting the one repeated set twice, but the songs that appeared in that set I've *'d. Songs in today's set are bolded).  And here's what we have so far:

4/7
Fastball - The Way

3/7
*Semisonic - Closing Time
Barenaked Ladies - One Week
Cake - Never There
Brian Setzer Orchestra - Jump Jive an' Wail
Garbage - Special

Smash Mouth - Can't Get Enough of You Baby
*Propellerheads - History Repeating

^^^That's half today's set that's appeared three or more times of the six unique (or seven total) 1998 runs.  And none of these were even in the rerun set!  ::)

2/7
*Barenaked Ladies - It's All Been Done
Alanis Morisette - Thank U
*Sheryl Crow - There Goes the Neighborhood
*The Tragically Hip - Poets
*Chris Isaak - Speak of the Devil
*Train - Meet Virginia
*Neil Finn - She Will Have Her Way
*Foo Fighters - Walking After You
*Lucinda Williams - Car Wheels on a Gravel Road
Harvey Danger - Flagpole Sitta
Cherry Poppin' Daddies - Zoot Suit Riot
The Donnas - Gimme My Radio
Wes Cunningham - So It Goes

1/7
The Crystal Method - Busy Child
The Offspring - Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)
New Radicals - You Get What You Give
RL Burnside - It's Bad You Know
Shawn Mullins - Lullaby
Jonathan Richman - True Love is Not Nice
DMB - Crush
Billy Bragg & Wilco - California Stars
David Gray - Please Forgive Me
Everything - Hooch
Lucinda Williams - 2 Kool 2 Be 4-Gotten
Goo Goo Dolls - Slide

Loreena McKennitt - The Mummers' Dance
Rufus Wainwright - April Fools
Kenny Rogers & the First Edition - Just Dropped In
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy - Big Time Operator
Fatboy Slim - Praise You
Lyle Lovett - Bears
REM - At My Most Beautiful

Good:
A: David Gray, Garbage
B: Everything, Goo Goo Dolls, Barenaked Ladies, Fastball
C: Lucinda Williams (Spelling it like that is so not cool), Alanis Morissette, Cake (I think I'm burned out on this)
F: Brian Setzer Orchestra

Necessary:
A: Everything
B: David Gray (One grade off for being two years off, but at least it wasn't Peter Gabriel...or Otis Redding.)
C: Lucinda Williams
D: Goo Goo Dolls (I guess it's not an F, this time, because it was the #1 pop song of 1998, making it so 1998.  Unfortunately, it's also so 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011.  Maybe if the rest of this set wasn't so unnecessary, this one might have actually gotten a B...but being the last track on this set made it an uWB.)
F:
Alanis Morisette (Once was enough.  Now onto the next song from this album, if they insist on playing Alanis.)
Garbage (Appearance 3 gets it an F.  Cool remix but a bit snoozy and doesn't translate so well into 10@10.  The remix got played last time too.)
Barenaked Ladies
Brian Setzer Orchestra (Can we erase this song from AL's memory? Please?)
Cake (Not only a frequent flier on 10@10, but also on KFOG, Alice, and Live.  F- for necessary.)
Fastball (also F-)
