The Peak week of 10/10/11
« on: October 10, 2011, 07:25:37 AM »
Mon 10/10/11: 1985

Kate Bush be runnin' up that hill and shiiiit.  BOS

Ho-hum:  "And She Was", "Head Over Heels", "I Knew the Bride" (I love me some Rob Nick Lowe, but this ain't his finest hour, IMO), "Lonely Ol' Night".  I'm surprised I'm hearing this mediocre set from the Peak, actually.  Don't they bring out the big guns (bustouts, rarities) on these 80s/late 70s sets?  ETA:  Roger Daltrey.  Meh.

WOS:  "Kayleigh"

Surprisingly sounding good, but maybe because it came after Marillion:  "And We Danced"

If the blues is your thang, you'd probably BOS SRV.  It ain't mine, so I'll keep schtum.

I don't know if I can quite bring myself to BOS "Close To Me" since I've heard it a million times in my lifetime.  HM.

You read my mind on all of these!  Love the orig"I Knew the Bride" but this Huey-produced reboot was SO unnecessary.

BOS the Cure.

rarity of the day (so far): Roger Daltrey, "After the Fire", from his LP Under a raging Queen Moon. Too bad After the Fire didn't do a song called "Roger Daltrey".

ooo! Buckingham-Nicks orig "Crystal" gets rarity-of-the-day (and played off vinyl), with the New Riders' "Panama Red" close on its heels. Mick sings about Ayun-jeh.

Steve Miller gets lovey-dovey.

OMFG: Bonnie Raitt, "Cry Like a Rainstorm". BOSFRA.

OMFG2: Garland Jeffreys, "Wild in the Streets", BOS(2)FRA. "Rob's on fire today"  ;)

OMFG3: NY Dolls, "Personalty Crisis" -- BOS3. Rob's best set in ages and worth catching on the replay tonite.

a Lemonheads song that's not overexposed ("Into Your Arms") gets a VHM. But Cracker's "Low", Blind Melon's "No Rain" and the Gin Blossoms' "Hey Jealousy" are far from rare.  WOS 10K Maniacs covering Patti Smith. Proxy of sundaygal: the Breeders.

RHCPs are officially on my "I never need to hear them again" list.

Soul Asylum's "Without a Trace": well, at least it's not "Runaway Train"

Thur 10/13/11: 1981

say whut-da-hell: BOSes Stones, "Hang Fire", DM, "Just Can't Get Enuf" and Devo's "Beautiful World".

VHM Kinks "Destroyer". OMGWTF: BOC, "Joan Crawford"!

Pretenders go to sleep.

OMGWTF2: Jon & Vangelis, "Friends of Mr Cairo" -- uber-BOS4! This was a Morey fave in the early '90s but I haven't heard it in a dog's age.

Fri 10/14/11: 1969!

People come from all around to watch the magic whore. CCR, Nilsson, The Band -- all pretty standard so far.

a TV theme that is sounding quite familiar but that I just can't place.*

Love is hot! Truth is MOLTEN!  goo goo BOS-bajagl.

Suite: Katrina Overplayed-Eyes. "can I tell it like it is, and listen to the butler?"

BOS2 Janis, "Try" -- Kozmic Blues is as underrated as Pearl is overexposed.

Hikky-Burr! the theme from the first Bill Cosby show gets a VHM. Thunderclap Newman gets a "how many Katrinas can we cram into one set?" award.

BOS3 Traffic's re-imagining of "Well Alright"

well, it's-uh 1969, okay? And it's-uh BOS4 from the Stooges. More Detroit pride!

* - it was Room 222. Where's Karen Valentine when we need her?
