Mon 7/25/11: 1971

Swedish-a Hy-kah! Damn, missed "Watching the River Flow", one of my fave #41 peaks -- BOS anyway.  Wild Horses couldn't drag me from a Rob '71 set. TJ drags the line.

BOS2 Stephen Stills' "Change Partners", another just-missed-the-Top40 single (#43).  BOS3 the Cat Man, "Moonshadow". Summer-of-'71 flashbacks. I was pretty much glued to my radio then.

I saw H&M Friday at the Red Vic.  There are about 8 Cat songs on the sndtk, which was never officially released.  Most of the songs were released elsewhere, but two songs were kept from official release until 1984: Trouble and If You Want Sing Out, Sing out.

BTW, tonight's last shows at the Red Vic are sold out, and the theater says every attendee  will get a special "gift" -- I'm thinking they'll be given wooden popcorn bowls.

There was a soundtrack album released on vinyl only in 2007, through the efforts of none other than Cameron Crowe and his Vinyl Films imprint. It was a limited run, 2500 copies, on colored vinyl with a booklet, bonus 7", and all that stuff. I am blessed that my dear wife had the sense to order one when it came out; they're rare as hen's teeth now.

Offhand I can only think of one other "after the fact" sndtk album -- Valley Girl, which was chock-full of then-current New Wave hits but because the film was not from a major studio, nobody had the wherewithall to put together a sndtk deal that involved so many rights from so many different labels. Rhino finally pulled it off a decade later.

nice to see Rob's still allowed to do '70s twice in one week.

July '75: Ambrosia is nice nice etc; Ian Hunter is once bitten; Macca's in the Medicine Jar; EJ needs saving and Marley livelys up.

OMGWTF: Pure Prairie League's "2 Lane Highway", which I haven't heard in ages. Kudos for not playing "Amie". BOSFRA.

Bowie's "Fame"ous and Neil & CrazyHorse say "Tonight's the Night" -- BOS2.

and Rob says '70s *again* on Friday! '90s tomorrow.

Thur 7/28/11: 1994

Weezer, Green day, Stones, Tori Amos, Cracker's "Get Off This" -- coulda been worse.  WOS Counting Crows. Even Hootie's "Hold My Hand" sounds good to me this morning.  Howcum KFOG isn't playing a ton of Hootie these days?

Smashing Pumpkins arrive to "Disarm" those kids with guns from that Foster the People song.

We get a Spin Doctors song that was not overplayed! "You Let Your Heart Go Too Fast".

Rob in the late '70s: can't beat it with a stick.

Kinks are falling; Patti S is dancin' barefoot with BOS1.  Even "My Sharona" can't harsh my mellow today.

Knopfler meets a lady writer.

OMGWTF: The Sinceros' "Take Me To Your Leader"! BOS2 and Rarity of the Week, fo' sho'.

I'd be happier to hear Mr Palmer had we not gotten him yesterday from AL.  Rickie Lee Jones shows up with another worthy rarity, "Youngblood".

The Cars: inevitable. Some woman whose name escapes me has done a Cars tribute album. (ETA: her name is Kris Delmhorst -- a folkie singer-songwriter type I'm unfamiliar with)

BOS3: B-52s on Planet Claire with pink air.
