Big Birthdays today, May 3rd
« on: May 03, 2005, 01:23:12 PM »
I wonder if any other date on the calendar boasts a trio of birthday's with the combined stature in American music of Bing Crosby, Pete Seeger & James Brown.  It's also the birthday of Niccolo Macchiavelli, but pretty much no Hollywood notable beyond Bing.

(actually IMDb has Bing Crosby's birthday as yesterday, but Allmusic has it as today.  Mike did you always think you shared your day with Bing?  Who's wrong?)

Mike reports, you decide! this is from a web page by someone who is obviously not a Bing fan:

Next to Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley, Bing Crosby is considered one of the greatest voices (and biggest pricks) of the twentieth century. He is also most commonly associated with the season of Christmas. Alternatively, he is well known for the abuse he gave towards the children of his first marriage.

Bing Crosby was born Harry Lillis Crosby in Tacoma, Washington, on May 3, 1903. He had no birth certificate, and his real birthday was not disclosed until after his death. Bing himself celebrated May 2, 1904 as his birthday. That makes him a liar too.

LOL! Today is also Frankie Valli and Christopher Cross's birthdays.

I knew I shared a B-Day with Lesley Gore. And Little Steven, bless him, played "She's a Fool" on Sun nite. One of my faves, and a song with one of the more ridiculous nonsense lyrics -- "shak-a-doo-la", I think they're saying -- in an era swarming with ridiculous nonsense lyrics.
You spin me right 'round, baby, right 'round

Frankie Valli rules. They used to make jokes about him and play his music on The Sopranos....

(Tony meets with some Native American casino owners and doesn't learn until the end of the episode that all they want is for him to get Franki Valli to play at their casino. Tony's indignant that they would assume just because he's Italian-American gangster he can do such a thing but then tells the boys to "put a call into Franki's people"! HA!)

And then Franki joined the cast as a NY mobster in Johnny Sack's gang. And he's freakin' great.
nakes? On my plane?
