I'll take "obscure answer records" for 300, Alex!  Carla Thomas replies to Sam Cooke with "I'll Bring It On Home To You".

OMFG! JJ plays the Olympics' orig version of "Good Lovin" -- I've only heard this once or twice before in my entire life!

I don't recall it at all, but the Young Rascals didn't veer that far from it, did they?    I think the Rascals included a full stop in the song -- can't recall if the version we just heard did that, though.  I do like the Olympics' horn arrangements.

ooo! the original (pre-5th D) version of "Workin' on a Groovy Thing" by the obscure Patti Drew.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5_sPjAw_ag

Followed by the NTM Dynamics, "If Loving You Was Ice Cream":

Quote
If loving you was ice cream
Oh, I could be the ice cream man
If loving you was a whole lot of money
I'd be the richest man in all the land

If a bee made honey
They way that I need you
They wouldn't only make it
In the summertime
They'd make it in the winter too

Cause I love you (I love you)
I love you (I love you)
I love you (I love you)
Good God almighty

If loving you was water
My well would never run dry
If loving you was happiness
My eyes would never, never cry

If my love was a light
(Shining on and on and on)
The dawn would never
Have come around

Well my love would
Shine on and on and on
And the sun would never go round

Angel, I love you (I love you)
I just love you (I love you)
I love you (I love you)
Good God almighty

I love you (I love you)
I just love you (I love you)
I love you (I love you)
Good God almighty

If loving you was time
A second could never slip away
(Slip away, yeah)

If loving you was
A whole lot of power
Girl, I'd rule the world
In just one day

And if hurting you was living
My life wouldn't be worth a dime
I'd die in a day
And I couldn't wait till tomorrow
I do declare, I ain't lying

Oh, angel, I love you (I love you)
I just love you (I love you)
I love you (I love you)
Good God almighty

I love you (I love you)
I just love you (I love you)
I love you (I love you)
Good God almighty

I just love you, love you
Love you, love you, love you....

'LNG plays Tom Jones' Bond theme, "Thunderball" -- wonder if they offered this to Miss Bassey and she said "Nah -- sounds too much like 'Goldfinger'."

'LNG unearths Melanie's sweet, forgotten "Biiter Bad".  Some young woman country singer could have a hit with this right now.

Holy Flaming Mother of Pop (Argot): 'LNG plays Blanchard & Morgan's "Tennessee Birdwalk". Now if they could follow it with "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep"...

"an appropriate number" as Lawrence Welk used to say: 'LNG plays Mr Buckingham's "Holiday Road" -- how did a hook like this fail to make the Top 40?

he didn't play that one when he was at the Mountain Winery last fall.  :(

here's the set list from that 9/8 show (which Alicat attended, too):

I know I'm not wrong
Gift of screws
Never Going Back Again
Big Love
Shut us Down
Under The Skin

World Turning
Did You Miss Me
So Afraid
Go Your own Way
Second Hand News
Dont Look Down

love the echo-echo-echo of the WLNG announcers. Even their commercials have that feature.  Reminds me of Mexican radio -- also heard it when I was in Brazil years ago.  It's an easy way for a small station to sound HUGE.  their oldies are what I recall "oldies" actually being when I was a kid: doo-wop and 50s stuff to start with. these days, the leading edge of most "Oldies" on the radio has crept from the 50's into the late 60s, if not further.   yes, life goes on.

Anyhoo, it's a fun station and I appreciate that the stream is, like, 40 kbps -- which replicates that AM sound, and that's how it should be for songs like these.

They just played Glen Campbell Wichita Lineman.  ... ah, Jimmy Webb.
