Sodden thought: was Mama Told Me Not To Come Randy Newman's first hit as a a songwriter?

This one, however, is not the first version.  The Animals did it in 1967 on the Eric is Here LP.

It's rainin' all over this man's world.  BOS2 to the tastefully understated Brook Benton, and to Tony Joe White for some sympathetic songwriting.

This set is working nicely for me. Happy FRIDAY!!!!!!!

What year was Ship of Fools?

Unless you meant World Party (& doesn't Elvis have a song by that title also?)

Don;t know about Elvis, but Robert Plant had one a couple of years after World Party.
Let's get right to it.

Ding Dong the Pope is Dead

Well, that's a first for 10@10: wonder if Dave's announcement of the Pope dying will make the replay?

Or was it Mr. Morey's own private April Fools joke?

Nah, he's a pro, and you don't joke about stuff like that on the air.
Let's get right to it.

Hmmm...it's been nearly two hours since DM reported that the Italian press was saying that the pope had died, and not a peep on SFGate, the NYTimes or CNN sites.

I keep having Pythonesque visions of the old codger, slung over the shoulder of some cardinal, yelling (in polish) "I'm not dead yet!!!"

ROTFL! "Bring out yer Popes..."

ABC is reporting that the Italian press had initially reported that he had died and then backed off the story.  CNN and others report he is in grave condition.

Annalisa said that there were conflicting reports about an hour ago, but didn't say for sure either way.  I coulda sworn she had the Twain quote about 'reports of my demise have been greatly exaggerated' right on the tip of her tongue, but in the end she let it pass.

Yahoo news also hasn't confirmed it, saying only "Catholics pray as Pope slides towards death."

At least Dave isn't a news guy, and he cited unconfirmed sources -- not like Fox.  Gotta love it when Fox f*cks up.
