Hmmm...it's been nearly two hours since DM reported that the Italian press was saying that the pope had died, and not a peep on SFGate, the NYTimes or CNN sites.

I keep having Pythonesque visions of the old codger, slung over the shoulder of some cardinal, yelling (in polish) "I'm not dead yet!!!"

ABC is reporting that the Italian press had initially reported that he had died and then backed off the story.  CNN and others report he is in grave condition.

Annalisa said that there were conflicting reports about an hour ago, but didn't say for sure either way.  I coulda sworn she had the Twain quote about 'reports of my demise have been greatly exaggerated' right on the tip of her tongue, but in the end she let it pass.

Yahoo news also hasn't confirmed it, saying only "Catholics pray as Pope slides towards death."

At least Dave isn't a news guy, and he cited unconfirmed sources -- not like Fox.  Gotta love it when Fox f*cks up.
