KBCO, 12/17/07: 10 from the White Album!
« on: December 17, 2007, 08:59:31 AM »
Before the set, tho'... I've been meaning to comment on the 'BCO morning guy. Granted, I only hear the last 15 mins of his show each day, but he sounds kinda snarky-but-not-in-a-good -way to me. He just did a promo for tomorrow's show, he's gonna have Frank Caliendo on, and he referred to him as "That Frank guy" as if he couldn't be bothered to know his last name, or assumes his audience doesn't know who he is.  When he's not doing stuff like that, he often seems bewildered as to why so-and-so is going to be on the show. Can't tell if it's an act or what, but it's annoying -- don't think I'd listen to the guy if I actually lived in Boulder.

Brett doesn't rub me the wrong way quite like that, and liekwise I've never heard more than the last 15 minutes of his show either, but I have often felt unimpressed enough to wonder why Ginger isn't the drive time deejay.  Maybe she preferes a normal wake up time.

The last time we stayed in a motel, my 7 year old asked me about the Gideon's Bible, and I gave a somewhat generic answer that ultimately didn't satisfy his curiosity.  But what I really wanted to do was immediately dial up this song and make him listen to it.

Sexy Sadie -- oooo, what have you done?  This is quite a flashback today. As I've said often, I got this LP for Xmas '68, just like millions of other kids between 8 & 18.

Apart from the famous album tracks, I never heard the White Album until the summer of 1991.  My friend Bill dubbed me a tape copy from his dad's vinyl as a going-away-to-college present.  The record skipped midway through "Blackbird" and I still mentally insert the bumping sound every time I hear the song.

I loved the right-wingers in '68 who pointed to "Back in the USSR" as "proof" that the Beatles were, y'know, Commies. The fact that they were parodying Chuck Berry and the Beach Boys was completely lost on them.

And the fact that there are just as many hot chicks in Russia as anywhere else...

I was leaning towards a 10-way-tie, but "Julia" really floors me.

The only way this won't be a 10-way tie is if Ginger gives Ringo ("Don't Pass Me By") equal time.  Or if she plays "Honey Pie," easily the weakest of Paul's "Grandpapa, take me to the music hall" essays.
