The rapid rise of "Brand New Key" = a mystery to me.

3DN, the premier interpreters of Paul Williams.

Yes, although Kermit and the gang are a very close second.

Cutesy/Novelty records always rise quickly.  Ms. Safka did a lovely cover of Jim Croce's "Lover's Cross" a couple of years later that, sadly, bombed -- I thought it would be a major comeback for her, but no.

Sly makes it 3 weeks at #1. And now off to Felix H.

Saturday CGSS, and Greg plays one of Ree-Ree's '90s highlights, "Willing To Forgive", a fabulous Babyface lyric and production.

"Hey Girl" is new to me, believe it or not.  Is this Goffin/King songcraft?  It's a cover, right?

I believe it is G/K.  Org by ... Bobby Vee? Jerry Butler may have done it too, and somebody (Bobby Vinton?) did a "Hey Girl"/"My Girl" medley iirc.

follow-up: Freddie Scott did the orig in '63; it was Bobby Vee who did the Hey Girl/My Girl medley in '68.

I cannot hear "Desiderata" without thinking of the Nat'l Lampoon parody, which sadly did not make the Top 40 (it peaked at 91!).

TANC of the Week: at the exact moment that Little Steven was playing the Crystals' "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town" to lead off his 2007 Xmas Show Part I, KFRC was playing the J-5's version.
