Music Discovery and Tastemaking on the Net
« on: February 17, 2008, 11:20:44 AM »
Finally playing with Last.fm after hearing about it for months.  I told it I wanted to hear stuff that sounded like the Grass Roots.  Got some predictables along with a few great surprises: the Four Seasons' "Wall Street Village Day" and Joe Dolan's "Sometimes a Man Just Has to Cry."  At some point I'd love to compile everything I've gleaned from these discovery and tastemaking engines - it's an angle of interest to me as the music industry drastically changes shape.  Anyone have any success stories to share?

A couple months ago at a store or some event I struck up a music conversation with a guy who turned out to be the COO of Pandora, Etienne Handman; gave me his card.

Trying out Jango right now. Fun. So far so good.
In the mix, Sylvester, Chic, Trammps, KC, 4 tops, Abba, BGs, Donna, Diana, Supes, GD and ABB.
