just switched over to KCDX --first time in a good long while -- and I get Mink DeVille's "Soul Twist" followed by Gerry Rafferty's little-heard "The Ark". Impressive, as usual.

WLNG Nugget o' the Day: Timi Yuro, "What's the Matter Baby?", covered in the late '70s by Ellen Foley.

Greg on CGSS, playing what can only be Disco Tex and the Sex-o-lette's follow-up to Get Dancin, although I've never heard it before: I Wanna Dance Wit Choo. It sounds almost identical. Which is to say, not too great.
Let's get right to it.

Indeed, one of the quintessential sound-alike followups -- unfortunately it didn't occur to them that sounding like a record as awful as "Get Dancin'" was not exactly something to aspire to.

Jolene on Gold

Jolene, jolene, jolene, jolene
Im begging of you please dont take my man
Jolene, jolene, jolene, jolene
Please dont take him just because you can
Your beauty is beyond compare
With flaming locks of auburn hair
With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green
Your smile is like a breath of spring
Your voice is soft like summer rain
And I cannot compete with you, jolene

He talks about you in his sleep
Theres nothing I can do to keep
From crying when he calls your name, jolene

And I can easily understand
How you could easily take my man
But you dont know what he means to me, jolene

Jolene, jolene, jolene, jolene
Im begging of you please dont take my man
Jolene, jolene, jolene, jolene
Please dont take him just because you can

You could have your choice of men
But I could never love again
Hes the only one for me, jolene

I had to have this talk with you
My happiness depends on you
And whatever you decide to do, jolene

Jolene, jolene, jolene, jolene
Im begging of you please dont take my man
Jolene, jolene, jolene, jolene
Please dont take him even though you can
Jolene, jolene
Sharks bleed teal.

What a fantastic piece of songwriting that is.

Semi-relatedly, Porter Waggoner's now experiencing a mini comeback, having released a new album and being invited to tour with the White Stripes.

If anyone's online tonight, Barry Scott's weekly Lost 45s show, an obscurities-fest I've touted much in years past, is once again online, as Oldies 103.3 in Boston has resumed simulcasting on the Web.  http://www.oldies1033.com/ Sunday 7-10pm.  You'll be glad you did.

BTW, the website says he's on from 7 to 11.  Which is, of course,  4-8 for the rest of us West Coasters.  I'll try to remember next week.
