Happy Birthday, Micky Dolenz!
« on: March 08, 2005, 07:00:55 AM »
My favorite Monkee turns 60 today.  I've been listening to his morning show on CBS-FM with some regularity.  It's pretty tame, no glaring highlights or lowlights.  His best moment was probably when he scatted/sang an a capella "Sir Duke," complete with horn sounds.  (If you've ever heard his "Randy Scouse Git," you know the guy can scat.)  On the other hand, yesterday he had on Martha Reeves, whose new release is re-recordings of old Vandellas hits wherein she sings all the parts.  Struck me as not only greedy, but flaky.  Nice woman, I'm sure, but she has *no* voice left.  It was a downright pathetic display, I'm afraid to say.

Anyway, we've entered my Piscine onslaught of celb/influential b-days.  Mark was Sunday, my friend Brandon had his yesterday, Micky's today, Thursday is my friend Victor, Saturday is Paul Kantner (actually, I've heard conflicting birthdates for him, either 3/12 or 3/17), next Tuesday is Sly Stone, and next Saturday is my friend Daniel.

what is it about Pisces?  Lots of people having sex around the solstice?

also today are Gary Numan & Randy Meissner.

In the Schroeder clan back in 1964 there was a June wedding of my father's next older brother (once-divorced & so 4 of his 5 brothers were already married).  Fast forward nine months & 3 of his brothers had babies between March 13-21 (one of which was my brother Chris that most of you met).

I shared my birthday on Sunday with Michelangelo & Shaquille O'Neal, among others (Willie Stargell, Lou Costello, Lefty Grove, Rob Reiner, David Gilmour, Dick Fosbury, Kiki Dee, and Kiri Te Kanawa).  My birthday is in particular an extremely literary day:  Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Elizabeth Barrett Browning & Ring Lardner were all born on March 6, while Ayn Rand, Luisa May Alcott & Pearl S. Buck all died on March 6.
