Stream of Consciousness / Re: Local (and other) radio news

"Classic Live 105" is back on 105.3 HD2. It used to be on HD2 years back but got replaced with "Indie 105". Now Indie is out and Classic is back (presumably since "Alt 105" leans more indie.) I've been listening to it the past few days. Mostly 80 through mid 90s Live 105, with a couple tracks from the 00s. I've heard a couple less common tracks...The Jam - "Eton Rifles," Electronic - "Get the Message," Pixies - "Head On" (Jesus & Mary Chain cover) & The Killing Joke - "Love Like Blood." It makes a good complement to Sirius XM First Wave.

"Live 105" has gotten a slight rebrand, "The New Alt 105.3" but still has the tag "The Bay Area's Alternative." Happened about 10 minutes ago...but so far, the first three songs would suggest that this station leans newer/more indie than before.

I don't think they're going to go back to skewing older, but IMO their current selection (and recent recurrents) has become significantly more interesting under the new PD. Their 90s selection still needs help.

Mix 106 just dumped their long running morning show, Bill and Marla/Pope and Marla (after Bill died.) Unsurprisingly, listeners on their Facebook page are not happy. (Sound familiar?)

Wow, sure don't remember this cover of Funkytown. Is it Wang Chung?

That was a long-time request of mine for Morey, AL, Renee. Never played.

Oddly, I hear it fairly often on XM First Wave's Friday Night 360 show.

Just posted by Dean K: https://www.allaccess.com/net-news/archive/story/168216/mat-bates-named-kfog-san-francisco-pd?ref=mail_bulletin

Bryan Schock exited a few months ago? I had no idea although I guess he (and Pinfield) haven't been doing the new music hour anymore. Now someone named Dayna is. Well, shows how much I care.

They blew out the air staff in one swoop but they're rotating PDs at the same rate they always have, it seems.

From 9-10 PM weeknights, they are doing a new music hour with Matt and Bryan. The music is very similar to that of the time they went schizo from 8-midnight circa 2010-2011 and played new hipster music without really telling us what was going on. But this time, they are actually billing it as New Music at 9.

Loreena McKennit (sp?) gets the BOS. I never heard her on the radio. It took 10 more years and RadioParadise for me to hear her music.

Love the song, though it was surprisingly a decent-sized CHR hit at the beginning of 1998 (and debuted on the Top 40 the same week as that Will Smith song):

For their 30th anniversary, Live 105 is currently featuring a different year every hour. So far we've gotten 1996, 1988, 1998, and 2006. It's like nonstop 10@10s...almost.

Stream of Consciousness / Live 105 Not So Silent Night 2016
« on: October 18, 2016, 02:53:19 PM »
Live 105's Not So Silent Night is back to 2 nights this year, December 9-10. (Friday/Saturday.) That means there will probably be about 12 bands (although with the rotating stage they introduced last year, they may have room for a couple more.)

The lineup will officially be revealed next Monday but you can usually figure out some of the lineup by seeing who other stations have at their Holiday concerts around the same time (usually the stations in Seattle, Portland, San Diego, Sacramento, and Denver announce their lineup before SF), seeing who's currently unusually high on Live 105's playlist (this would include, say, the Head and the Heart who they bumped back up to high rotation last week, but wouldn't work for bands like the Red Hot Chili Peppers because they always play them in high rotation) and going to the artists' websites and seeing if there are available tour dates, in particular ones surrounded by other west coast dates.

So far, my predictions include (I'm not going to try to guess whether they'll be on night 1 or 2 :P ): Empire of the Sun, Jimmy Eat World, Phantogram, Glass Animals, The Head and the Heart, Kaleo, Grouplove, Bishop, Beck, Capital Cities, K-Flay (the last one could be part of their pre-party, although I suspect they actually may put her on one of the real nights since she's local, they've been playing her on Soundcheck forever, and she finally got signed to a label.)

1. I'm not surprised there will be no LFTA this year and saying they hope to have one next year seems like a passive-aggressive cop-out.

2. On the other hand, I am surprised that they are having Concert for Kids. They don't deserve to call it the "KFOG 31st Annual" one, though. I would have said they don't deserve to hold one either...but I guess it's for a good cause.

3. Band of Horses actually is pretty hip in my opinion, although I don't think KFOG has had any of their songs on the playlist since "Is There a Ghost?" back in 2008. EDIT: Now they're spinning their latest, "Casual Party" but in low rotation.

4. I like the lineup. I might actually want to go to this thing, although two nights of Live 105's Not So Silent Night is that weekend and I don't want to be all concerted out before that. They haven't officially announced the lineup but I am pretty sure of about half the bands (by looking at other holiday concerts & so-far empty spaces in the tour schedule on artists' website).

I like this one after the Joseph Arthur. NTM and don't recognize the singer.

Right after Joseph Arthur is actually Erasure!

The good news: it's heavy on bustouts

The bad news: they're bustouts I have no interest in.
Is the curator one of us? Name sounds familiar, but I can't keep the nicknames and the real names straight.

The curator is the one who posted the year before the set was up. ;)
Ahhh, I had my suspicions ;-)  Nice work!

Thanks!
