Not sure if it's live or just a re-recording, but this version of Song Sung Blue is definitely not the originally released version.

Enjoyed the earlier part of this set, but as we go up the chart, the more LN-y it gets.

A great idea and a set I'm actually going to listen to!  Mais oui! I am the king of the divan!

SPOILER: didn't really need TWO versions of "Lady Marmalade"

and I'd've preferred Grace Jones' "La Vie En Rose", but I guess a segue from ABBA to Ms. Jones woulda been hella gay.

Agree, a mostly enjoyable set, save for that last Lady Marmalade. Just emphasized how much better the original one is.

And the bonus track missed being in the right year by like 5 years. Pretty sure "Get Dancin'" came out in 1975 or thereabouts.

Have to wonder if Gary Glitter or whoever wrote Rock & Roll Part 2 got a cowriting credit for that Dr. Who song. It wasn't good but there's more than a passing resemblance between the two.

Can't say it's not a varied set. Also can't say it's a set I need to hear. Have no idea what that James Bond clue is referring to.
I was guessing it was Guns N' Roses cover of "Live and Let Die". But that's probably more recent than 1992. Song number one is completely unknown to me. Not too thrilling.

ETA: Turns out "Live and Let Die" came out in late 1991, so it could be right.
ETAA: Except "LaLD" was pretty much a hit when it came out the first time. I think.

ETA: Dang, this is a pretty insipid set. I really don't remember 1992 being so boring. I was actually enthused about the 90s coming because I really didn't like much of the 80s. The Black Crowes seemed to signal a return of rock to to the radio. But sheesh, boring stuff in July.

I took one look at the setlist and moved along. Nothing to hear here.

LNs up the wazoo. *sigh*

I dunno. For my money, 1,2,4,5,7,9 & 10 all sounded pretty good (some less rare than others).

And it sounds as if DM has recorded some new bumpers.

Except for the Jr Walker rarity, another mostly "Sixties for Dummies" excursion.
I don't recognize this version "Sealed with a Kiss", but it's got some pretty pitchy singing.

Sounds like they're doing their best to cover it up with background vox and a MOR arrangement. I guess when your dad is Jerry Lewis, you don't have to sing too good.

Also: I guess I've seen "Love Actually" too many times. I can't hear Love is All Around without thinking of a leering Bill Nighy.

The legendary KFOG morning man and originator of the Sunday Night Idiot Show died early this morning after a long illness. Will post a link when I find one.

Edit: Here's a mention of him and his predicament in one of Ben Fong-Torres columns from February of this year.

Other than the Cheap Trick rarity... nothing to see here.

Both this and the previous day's Summer set were pretty lame, IMO.  And not just because they both had Motels songs, although that certainly didn't help matters.

11 tunes by acts that performed at the festival -- not clear whether he played live versions of all 11 or if he used the orig studio takes (if the latter, there are some pretty obvious choices in some cases).

Nope, all 11 songs were their Monterey renditions. So props for that.

Also, at the end of the backsell, DW mentioned that there are some changes coming in July for the Soundwaves 10@10, and he "thinks we'll like them."

I admit I am a little curious, but won't be waiting by the phone to find out what they are.

Btw, it looks like he's doing sets every day this week. We've had new ones on 3 consecutive days so far.

Not bad, the obligatory Meco chart-topper notwithstanding. BOS: Chewbacca.

5/10:

On today’s edition of Soundwaves 10@10, we celebrate our 1-year anniversary with a
celebration of the reason we are all here: music. It stirs the soul, warms the heart, and
gets your feet movin’! From Bob Seger and Madonna, to Stevie Wonder and the Doobie
Brothers, we’ve got ten great songs about music!

...and you've probably heard most of them more times than you can count.

In Memoriam, Happy Birthday / RIP Kevin Garcia, 41

The bassist for Grandaddy, the best band ever to come out of Modesto California, died yesterday after suffering a sudden stroke on Monday. He was 41 years old and leaves a wife, two children, and many other family members. The band had released their first new album in 10 years earlier this year, and was to start a West Coast tour in Vancouver this coming Sunday. I had planned to see them in Portland next Tuesday, and I am crushed by this. They were one of the most amazing live bands I've seen, and was really looking forward to the show.
