Napoleon Solo on "The Man From U.N.C.L.E".

Also, one of "The Magnificent Seven", playing the gunfighter on the run who's lost his nerve.  His redemption is quickly followed by his demise, and his slightly ridiculous death scene is one of my favorite scenes in the movie.  Apparently, the last of the Mag7 to go...

Former SF Giants 3rd baseman in the late 60's, early 70's.  The third baseman during the years I was becoming a Giants fan (I came to the Bay Area in 1966 as a 7 year old), so he'll always hold a special place in my memory.

Willlllbbbburrrr, from "Mister Ed".  Apparently, Mr Ed himself died in 1970 at age 21, according to how I am interpreting the really poorly written blog post in sfgate (http://www.sfgate.com/entertainment/the-wrap/article/Alan-Young-Star-of-Mister-Ed-Dies-at-96-7874611.php).

Quote
The actor’s equine “Mister Ed” costar, Bamboo Harvester, appeared on the series from 1949 until 1970, when he euthanized after suffering from a number of health ailments. The lovable Palomino was later buried at Snodgrass Farm in Oklahoma.

The series ran from '61 to '66.

A sad day indeed.

In Memoriam, Happy Birthday / RIP, Ken Stabler (The Snake), 69
« on: July 09, 2015, 05:21:58 PM »
Some confusion earlier today, when unconfirmed reports went out, but now it seems confirmed.

One of my original sports heroes when I was a kid.  Not a terrific role model, but a hell of a competitor.  Throw deep, Snake.

I wasn't a huge fan, I like my fantasy a little more serious in nature (he wrote satiric, whimsical fantasy - and lots of it), but I did respect his inventiveness and good humor.  He'd probably be a lot more fun to have a beer with than would someone like GRR Martin.  His books were likable even though they weren't exactly to my taste (I've read maybe 6 or 7).

Anyway, a great loss for the fantasy literature world.
