"Tell It All Brother.  Before We Fall.  Tell It All Brothers & Sisters...Tell It All"

2
"Sukiyaki" by A Taste of Honey has to be one of the worst remakes ever.  Not quite as grating as "Boogie Oogie Oogie" but wretched nevertheless!

3
The 5 PM 80's AT 40 on JACK-FM (Baltimore) screwed up royally. They went to commercial after "Sweetheart", did the extra "The Greatest American Hero" and returned years later with Poison's "Talk Dirty to Me".

ETA: After Madonna's "La Isla Bonita", they went to commercials and returned with Gino Vannelli at #6, skipping 7-10. This was obviously the stations mistake. The 8 PM 80's AT 40 had the entire show from 1981 intact and didn't add two songs from a 1987 chart.
Yeah it was quite the messup.  Whoever downloaded really messed up.  I switched to KCLH in LaCrosse WI to hear the songs WQSR didn't play.

Here's a station that not only plays both Caseys ('70s & '80s) -- it plays 'em back-to-back on Sundays, starting at noon eastern/9am pacific. WCFR in Springfield. VT:

Love back to back AT40s!!!   Now we only need a station to air either show on Friday nights. Miss my fix since KQLL dropped both shows and went all 90's on the world!!!

Yay! This week Casey goes to Jan 8th 1972!

Wow, this set is spectacularly good.  "Make Me the Woman You Go Home To" is a toppermost moment for GK&tP, and I've always had a thing for the Tempts' "Superstar," even as it rips off "Superfly" in its construction.

And things get a little easier once you get past that goofy Think song.

I really needed this wonderful chart today. Agreed on the Gladys; a true lost gem. The Tempts tune actually pre-dates the Curtis M sndtk by 6 months, so who's rippin' who?  And I've dissed the Think song before, but it would actually be a good little record without that cringe-inducing heavy-handed finale.

I suppose "Think" found an fairly receptive audience in the first edge of the Baby Boomer generation, whose kids started to hit adolescence right around this time.   "Oh my God, my 12 year old is experimenting with the pot! if only there was some sort of pop song that could help me think!"
"Once You Understand" came out a few months after the equally bad "Desiderata" by Les Crane.   Conservatives striking back at the counter culture.

Not a real big Helen Reddy fan but "Angie Baby" has some of the most wild, cryptic lyrics ever for a #1 song. A guilty pleasure for sure.

You live your life in the songs you hear
On the rock and roll radio
And when a young girl doesn't have any friends
That's a really nice place to go
Folks hoping you'd turn out cool
But they had to take you outta school
You're a little touched you know, Angie Baby

Lovers appear in your room each night
And they whirl you across the floor
But they always seem to fade away
When your daddy taps on your door
Angie girl, are you all right
Tell the radio good-night
All alone once more, Angie Baby

Angie Baby, you're a special lady
Living in a world of make-believe
Well, maybe

Stopping at her house is a neighbor boy
With evil on his mind
'Cause he's been peeking in Angie's room
At night through her window blind
I see your folks have gone away
Would you dance with me today
I'll show you how to have a good time, Angie Baby

When he walks in her room,
He feels confused like he's walked into a play
And the music's so loud it spins him around
'Til his soul has lost its way
And as she turns the volume down
He's getting smaller with the sound
It seems to pull him off the ground
Toward the radio he's bound never to be found

The headlines read that a boy disappeared
and everyone thinks he died
'Cept a crazy girl with a secret lover
Who keeps her satisfied
It's so nice to be insane
No one asks you to explain
Radio by your side, Angie Baby

Angie Baby, you're a special lady
Living in a world of make-believe
Well, maybe
Well, maybe

Do the Premiere Radio Network version ever play anything from 1979? Sirius/XM version this weekend is from December 15, 1979 and it is the entire 4 hour version.
Premiere would have to employ somebody full time to edit down the late '78 and '79 shows to 3 hours and they aren't going to put out the money to do that.

This upcoming weekends shows will be the top 40 of 1976 (edited down version of part 2 of the top 100 countdown) on AT40-the 70's and the top 50 of 1982 on AT40-the 80's.   Why they didn't play 51-100 of 1982 or 1986 last week and 1-50 this week is baffling!!!

From what I've been hearing this weekends show will be an edited down version of part 2 of the top songs of 1977.
Yup, this weekend it's the:
Top 40 Songs of 1977 (originally aired 12/31/77)

Hope that means they restored some unedited versions of songs to the show. 2 years ago they aired the 1978 2-parter of the Top 100 of that year; problem was they were 4-hour shows edited to fit into 3 hours! Nearly every song was a "quickie" version, and many were, like, 90 seconds long!
Thank goodness they didn't edit out the Britt Ekland section of Rod Stewart's "Tonight's The Night".

KKLZ's website says we're getting the year-end countdown of the Top 40 hits of 1977... but in '77 Casey did a 2-parter counting down the Top 100 (50 songs each week) so it's not clear what we'll hear. But here are the rundowns for both halves of that 2-parter:

From what I've been hearing this weekends show will be an edited down version of part 2 of the top songs of 1977.  They will be playing the top 50 songs of 1986 on AT40-the 80's this weekend .  Who knows what they will play the following week on either show.
