Zowie!
Gimme some love George
-
When I said during Bob's set that I needed all the peace I can get, I didn't expect this!
-
This is amazing. It will never happen again in a gazillion years.
So how many more of Bob's songs will Dave repeat? He's 1-for-1 so far.

Don't know but 73 is a pretty deep year--lots to choose from.
BOS1 to George, HM to Billy.

I had to step outside after George, which Billy did I miss? "Piano Man" I could tolerate missing, but if it was "Travellin' Prayer", "Captain Jack' or "Billy the Kid", then I'm seriously bummed.
ETA: It just occurred to me that I have to Amazon & add this to my shopping cart right now.

Rest easy--it was Billy Preston, not Billy Joel. Will It Go Round In Circles.

BOS1 George
BOS2 Drift Away

Segue of the week! Nixon into Elton

the Shrub is going down in flames. Mark my words.

I would VERY much like to believe that.
I think I've mentioned before that I'm on an email list with folks I went to Higth School with. It started as a way for people to socialize, network etc (virtually all of them still live in Queens). It has degenerated into a generator of right-wing political spam, most of them are still conservative Catholics and assume that we all are. Two weeks ago -- in the midst of Bush/Katrina -- someone sent us all this horrid "Open Letter to Cindy Sheehan" that's been making the rounds. It trashes the woman. VERY offensive. I replied to the sender and said "sorry -- you're timing's a bit off. This is NOT a good week to be sticking up for Dubya". And I had myself removed from the list. But these people are not going to change their minds anytime soon. It's scary.

Those will be the Nixon/Haldeman apologistas of this decade.
Take comfort, they are ewrong & you are right.

Gladys went to Mardis Gras and they screamed "Show us your Pips!"

#6 SANTANA - When I look into your eyes.
I checked Allmusic, came up with the same result. Would NOT have guessed that was Santana. But the composer was his keyboard whiz, Tom Coster, so that might explain its different sound.
ETA: Hope Geoff was able to listen in for this--he'd have dug it.

As Tom Tomorrow notes in this week's "This Modern World" -- what does George have to do to lose his core followers, bit the head off a live bunny?
It's also worth noting that the folks encamped at Camp Sheehan headed over to Pontchartrain (I think) where they are now of vital assistance in distributing donated food and medical and other supplies to evacuees. Regardless of what anyone feels about Cindy's antiwar efforts, they should be applauding this one.

Actually that woulda been my guess, tho' I can't remember ever hearing it before.

Dude, it's prog rock!
I almost "get" Genesis in their early efforts... Later, blech.
-
get these guys outta my wardrobe!
-
ooo! "Soul Makossa". Total flashback to the summer of '73. I remember the first time I heard this, it was like, WTF???
-
VHM Gladys
Called Dave.
Sez I: I'm totally digging this set, and I detect a deep political subtext.
Sez Dave: Good!
Sez I: I'm thinking 10-way Tie, but if I have to give a BOS, it would go to Gladys, although I hope we can change the title to "Midnight Train to Crawford".
Sez Dave: NO SHIT!!! (emphasis his)
-
BOS #??? Stevie, you are the sunshine of my life. I listended to this over and over and over back in the day.
-
A final BOS to Stevie's "Sunshine," which I associate with 1972, but hey. It sounds dated -- it calls to mind my grandfather's old 1972 Vega that always reeked of cigar smoke -- but it's just such a heavenly melody.
-
OK, let me first admit freely that I have a strong and obvious bias towards sets from 1971-75.
That said, can I just say that this set F***ING RULED. Set o' the week, and if it's not, I want to hear the one that is.

we could get '67 or '68 on Fri... (When you "set o' the week" I assume you mean "Morey set o' the week".)

I'd freely put this set up against 67 or 68.
And yeah, Morey set o' the week, being as I only just started listening to the Colorado 10@10, and confess to never having heard either of the other two (not near a computer at the right time, sorry.)
-
(sigh) I miss one of the best sets of the year due to a stupid staff meeting.

Listened to it again tonight, and it all sounded really good. But in hearing the Bruce track, I suddenly realize that I've more or less forgotten what it was like to be young. Or at least, that kind of carefree let's-smoke-and-drink-and-fuck-cuz-who-cares-about-tomorrow kind of young. It would make me very sad if I dwelt on this.

understood. I'm not quite sure why I made that post either!
