presumably a late-'80s day.
clue: "Jon Lovitz on SNL that year" which would be... anywhere from '85 to '90.
man, I *really* don't wanna hear about Joe Theismann's prostate.
eek: '87. this is gonna be gruesome, I'm betting. But VHM JCM, "PIF"
-
TOTHK - John Mellencamp "Paper In Fire" - 1987
-
Chris Rea "Let's Dance"
-
BOS Chris Rea, "Let's Dance" -- one of his that ya don't hear that often.

BOS Chris Rea, "Let's Dance" -- one of his that ya don't hear that often.
But, one that has made plenty of appearances on KFOG regular programming since DC took the reins. Along with "Texas." DC loves some CR.

NTM. Not bad. I'll give it an HMFRA.

INXS "Need You Tonight"

INXS "Need You Tonight"
Let the LNs commence.

didn't realize DC had that in rotay. It was a fave of mine when it was new, and I was disappointed when it wasn't a major pop hit in the US. I remember buying the 45 at Tower, back when they stocked the entire Billboard Hot 100 each week.
Oy: uber-uber-LN INXS. It's one of DC's kind.

Los Lobos "Set Me Free (Rosa Lee)"
-
Set me free, Renee -- let Rosalie do 10@10 instead.
-
Los Lobos "Set Me Free (Rosa Lee)"
Interesting. Anyone else hearing a Van Morrison influence here?
-
Set me free, Renee -- let Rosalie do 10@10 instead.
S**t, Steve Rockwell would be a huge upgrade.
-
Echo & The Bunnymen "Lips Like Sugar"
ETA: uh oh, I think Renee played this the last time she visited 1987
-
Echo & The Bunnymen "Lips Like Sugar"
LN2. Probably their most-played track on "mainstream" AOR
-
Echo & The Bunnymen "Lips Like Sugar"
This may be the most played '87 track of all, but I still like hearing it. I'm anticipating RGMike writing LN to the several uber power as I type this.
The pink rectangle indicates not as emphatic an LN denunciation as I'd thought.
-
Depeche Mode "Route 66"
-
Echo & The Bunnymen "Lips Like Sugar"
ETA: uh oh, I think Renee played this the last time she visited 1987
yup, the famous set that "went to 11" because she accidentally played F.mac.
1. U2 - In God's Country
(News: Jim & Tammy Baker)
2. New Order - True Faith
3. Bourgeois Tagg - I Don't Mind At All
4. The Cure - Why Can't I Be You
5. Suzanne Vega - Luka
6. Paul Carrack - Don't Shed A Tear
(News: The market crashes)
7. INXS - New Sensation
8. The Grateful Dead - Touch Of Grey
(Movie: Less than Zero)
9. The Bangles - Hazy Shade of Winter
10. Fleetwood Mac - Don't Stop (OOOPS! wrong year)
11. Echo and the Bunnymen - Lips Like Sugar
-

LMAO! Ouch.
-
BOS Depeche Mode
-
love it when Depeche Mode mis-pronounce Winona as "Wy-NO-nah". This isn't a song about the Judds, bub.
-
Sting "We'll Be Together"
-
Sting "We'll Be Together"
I quite liked this one at the time. Now... notsomuch.
-
Sting "We'll Be Together"
Definitely says 1987 to me, and not in the regular KFOG rotation, but can't say I needed to hear it, either.
-
U2 "Where The Streets Have No Name"
-
Echo & The Bunnymen "Lips Like Sugar"

And how long ago was that? Three weeks? Maybe a month tops?
-
a Dave Morey AIDS-quilt clip, followed by the obligatory U2 song from Joshua Tree. LN3.
-

6 weeks, incredibly -- Feb 8th. Time flies when you're listening to crappy sets.
-
a Dave Morey AIDS-quilt clip, followed by the obligatory U2 song from Joshua Tree. LN3.
The clip definitely had to be a retread, but it was quite moving.

Squeeze "Hourglass"

No question, but it carried more weight when Dave played it. 'Cause you knew he lived through it.
-
Squeeze "Hourglass"
I didn't know these guys had made it to '87.
-
have to bail, but LN4 "Hourglass". This could've easily been a Morey '87 set from 10 years ago. Only thing missing is Crowded House.
-
Roxy Music "Kiss And Tell"
ETA: Bryan Ferry
-

Aw man, you missed a Moonstruck clip. "Snap out of it!"
-
Roxy Music "Kiss And Tell"
BOS, but isn't this Bryan Ferry solo?
-
Roxy Music "Kiss And Tell"
BOS, but isn't this Bryan Ferry solo?
Yep. However Ferry used many of the Roxy supporting musicians (pretty much everyone but Manzanera and Mackay), so it's nearly interchangeable. Gets my BOS for today.
-

You are correct.
-
Squeeze "Hourglass"
I didn't know these guys had made it to '87.
They broke up for a time in the mid-80s but got back together again in '86 or so. I think they've since broken up and reformed several times.
-
Renee sez Bryan Ferry gets BOS, VHM to Echo & The Bunnymen.
-
1. John Mellencamp - Paper In Fire
2. Chris Rea - Let's Dance
(Commercials: The Noid for Domino's/Max headroom for New Coke/Velveeta Mac and Cheese/Nissan Maxima/Apple II)
3. INXS - Need You Tonight
4. Los Lobos - Set Me Free (Rosa Lee)
5. Echo & THe Bunnymen - Lips Like Sugar
6. Depeche Mode - Route 66
7. Sting - We'll Be Together
(News: AIDS quilt)
8. U2 - Where The Streets Have No Name
9. Squeeze - Hourglass
10. Roxy Music - Kiss and Tell
-
Would this following set be an improvement over today's?
1. John Cougar Mellencamp - Hotdogs And Hamburgers
2. Scritti Politti - Best Thing Ever
3. INXS - The Loved One (Loved Ones cover)
4. Terence Trent D'Arby - Who's Lovin' You (Miracles cover)

9. Squeeze - Some Americans
10. Bryan Ferry - The Right Stuff
Album cuts or lesser known singles instead of the same overplayed (LN) hit singles...
-
have to bail, but LN4 "Hourglass". This could've easily been a Morey '87 set from 10 years ago. Only thing missing is Crowded House.
Yep, a quick look (grep is your friend) reveals it was played three or four times a year in the DM
era, and about once a year in the AL era. Still, I've always liked the video because it has lots of
interesting trompe l'oeil effects and optical illusions.
