A promising set so far!
1. Redbone's  'The Witch Queen of New Orleans', (two years before their big hit "Come and Get Your Love").
2. Stones - All Down The Line
3. Alice Cooper - Elected

Should have seen the Dan's "Kings" coming as continuation of today's theme.

ETA: I bet we end with "Smiling Faces Sometimes" or "Backstabbers."

BOS #3, this is a very subtle piece of commentary, given that John was far worse than Richard, so much so that in 800 yrs since the English have never had a John II.

I don't know Steely Dan's non-heavy rotation stuff that well, so this kind of song in a 10@10 set is what can make a set special. gimme that obscure stuff!

Pure pop paradise, and I know Gaz wholeheartedly agrees, BOS#4 the Spinners.

The call & response between the strings & horns on the bridge is maybe my favorite 30 seconds of pop arrangement of all time.

I have picked up on that, heh heh... and of course "obscure stuff" is relative.  ;)

BOS4 to the Spinners.

... and if the Eagle's "Peaceful Cheesy Feeling" isn't a Katrina, it sure sounds like it should be.

hey Davefish & Alicat, have your kids already started school this week?

Mine did on Monday, their first experience of public school.  So far so good, but I just can't get used to the idea of school before Labor Day.

They did.  Ella just started middle school, so it's a time of much drama.  But she seems to be doing fine.  And I think Nathan feels a bit more distinct being the only person at his school, and near the top to boot.

It's a good thing. All is well in the Alicat-sphere. They're there, I'm here. Quiet house. At least for a few more hours. I started a blog about a year ago and JUST added a new post. Want to try keeping up with it. Just random commentary from time to time.

Oddly enough it's actually a bustout, as far as the Db goes.  Hoodathunkit?

I think he means that Nathan enjoys not having his big sis in the same school as him now.

Yah, dat's what I meant.  I knew that didn't really come out right, but was too lazy to fix it.

In terms of anti-Katrina-ness, this was really a set for the ages.

I have 49 sets from '72 in my Db, and both The Delegates & The Eagles were bustouts.  Every other song had only 2, 3 or 4 previous appearances.

At first I thought "Peaceful Easy Feeling" was a surprising bustout, but actually Dave just doesn't play the Eagles that much.  F'rinstance, the Dwight Twilley entry is right above the Eagles, and Dave has played "I'm On Fire" more often than any two Eagles songs.

BOS Thunder and Lightening.

While reviewing property page of our claims application, I noticed that a Loss Cause droplist included "Lightening".  I suppose  dark paint fading (on a vehicle, or a building) could be considered a cause of loss, but I changed the value to "Lightning" anyway...

Most impressive -- I look forward to the replay.  But (and you KNEW I'd say this): Dave has played "Convention '72" at least once; I know I taped a set that contained it back in '96 because I needed that track for a political mixtape I was making.  But it's quite the rarity, that's for sure.
