Was tied up with work.  This Soul Patrol gets a 10-way BOS on principle, but special recognition to "Family Affair," a song with some personal resonance of late.

Gul-damn, this Timmy Thomas song still scares the living hell out of me.  Apocalyptic visions.

Best guitar of set goes to the Spinners' "It's a Shame" (that's not Stevie playing it, is it?) - in honor of the days when R&B hits actually had guitar lines.

100 Proof Aged in Soul.

One of the strangest band names ever, but there you have it.

1.  Aretha Franklin' - Rock Steady
2.  Flaming Ember - Westbound #9
3.  8th Day - She's Not Just Another Woman
4.  Harold Melvin & the Bluenotes - Don't Leave Me This Way (BOS!!)
5.  Little Sister - You're the One
6.  Sly & the Family Stone - Family Affair
7.  Timmy Thomas - Why Can't We Live Together
8.  Chairmen of the Board - Give Me Just a Little More Time
9.  Spinners - It's a Shame
10.  100 Proof (Aged in Soul) - Somebody's Been Sleepin'

BONUS TRACK:  Staple Singers - Sha-Na-Boom Boom

Very nicely done, tho' nothing Dave hasn't played before. And the Bonus is the real gem here, IMHO.  Saw the Staples (circa '74) on the Soul Train Classic this weekend -- no wonder Dylan was so smitten with Mavis.

Way ahead of you. Stayed home with a bad belly this am, and was lying in bed hoping it would be 1988 or something, so when Dave said "Soul Patrol" I replied, "Oh SHIT" and ran downstairs and started a tape. Cut the intro and the first 30 seconds or so of Aretha, but got the rest. May try for a re-do tonight.

And the stomach is much better now, thanks.

Btw, our last Soul Patrol was on Oct 20 of last year. And of the 11 SPs in the DB prior to today, four showed up in October. Connection somehow?

Dunno about that -- although some of Dave's SPs have been scary good

SP always reminds me of a day a dozen or so years ago when Dave did one of his '60s SPs and came on for the backannounce -- he sounded upset. He told of how some guy had called during the set to say "Soul Patrol SUCKS!" and Dave spent some time trying to get the guy to say "why" but he wouldn't be specific ("'cause it just DOES") and you could tell it really bothered Dave.  No wonder he's wary of Fogheads.

That's really a shame (not to mention exceedingly wrong). I really dig Dave's Soul Patrols, and in the last 5 years or so they've gotten pretty scarce--one or two a year. It seemed like they used to pop up maybe once a quarter or so when I first started listening regularly. But after a call or two like that, I can see why he might be more inclined to scale 'em back.

Subject: SOUL PATROL rocks!!!

Missed the beginning this morning -- catching the replay now.

Can never hear enough of Aretha.  Don't think I've ever heard tracks 2-3
Love hearing the original of "Don't Leave Me This Way" (I think I
first heard the Communards version back in high school.)

Anyways, love the SPs.  It'd be great to hear them more often!
