Crap--unfortunately timed impromptu meeting meant I missed Edwin Starr and hopefully nothing else. Came in in the middle of the Soul Sacrifice drum solo.

Job: good. Wonderful people, they keep telling me how thrilled they are to have me

Benefits: well, it's Kaiser, which means benefits are wonderfully inexpensive (free office visits, $5 prescripts) BUT... I have to change doctors after going to the same guy for 15 years. So I'm majorly bummed about that.

You mentioned something yesterday about being able to have your speakers on low. Can we infer from this that you have an office and not just a cube?

Nice sports clip of the Mets' pennant run and WS win. And with More Today Than Yesterday we're safely in 10-way tie territory.

(I'm all in favor of vacations--the longer the better--but I hate coming back and having to learn how to type all over again. It took me about three minutes to type the above correctly. OK, slight exaggeration, but you know what I mean.)

Yeah, and the black armband protest to listening to Beatles records quote from the VP's wife segue to Beatles was great too....

No, I'm in a cube -- I had just forgotten my headphones on Tuesday, so i was trying to listen thru the PC speakers without disturbing anyone.  But I'm in headphone mode now.   Nice thing is, it's my own cube (at Blue Shield we had shared cubes, which is how I got into the headphone habit to begin with). But we're moving in a week or 2 (from the 14th to the 19th floor) so i haven't had a chance to "decorate" yet.

Is it me, or does Dave sound less jaded & world-weary on these old "classics"?

Proxy of Gaz: Spiral Starecase and those fab horns.

No, it's not just you. He def. has a more upbeat, less cynical tone to his commentary. But he's been doing this for 20-plus years, so can't say it's surprising. Maybe he needs a longer vacation than just a week or two.
