You are *way* ahead of the game today, my friend.

My bets:

Aretha, "Until You Come Back to Me" (a lock)
Bobby Womack, "Lookin' for a Love"
Stylistics, "I'm Stone in Love With You"
Temptations, "Masterpiece"

My wishes that won't be filled:

Chi-Lites, "Stoned Out of My Head"
Dells, "Give Your Baby a Standing Ovation"
Ann Peebles, anything but "I Can't Stand the Rain" (no diss against the song; it's just that Dave just played that one recently)

I heard that!
Wonder who the "special" longtime Foghead is.
I can hardly wait.

It ain't me, babe.  But that's what I was considering asking for for my (50th) birthday so I'll have to rethink.

My predictions:
Jungle Boogie - Kool & The Gang (a Dave fave, I'd actually bet money on this one)
Ain't No Woman (Like the One I've Got) - Four Tops
The Love I Lost (Part 1) - Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes
One of a Kind (Love Affair) - Spinners
Keep On Truckin' (Part 1) - Eddie Kendricks
Let's Get It On - Marvin Gaye
Break Up to Make Up - The Stylistics*
Never, Never Gonna Give Ya Up - Barry White

My unfulfilled wishes:
Call Me (Come Back Home) - Al Green
I Got Ants in My Pants (and I Want to Dance) (Part 1) - James Brown
Trouble Man - Marvin Gaye

*Unfortunately the Stylistics, "I'm Stone in Love With You" was only on the charts for the final 8 weeks of 1972 (per Whitburn), and thus does not technically qualify.  Whether or not Dave plays it in a '73 set is up to him though.

would any of the four, count 'em, four chart hits by War in '73 count as a soul patrol entre?

In any case I'd also expect "Soul Makossa" today.

I think "Makossa", like the Aretha tune, is a lock. But I bet we hear "Trouble Man" too, which is one of those '72/'73 overlappers. I also predict some Stevie, some Gladys, and Sly's "If You Want Me To Stay".

My (probably) unfulfilled wishes:

Ohio Players, "Funky Worm"
Foster Sylvers, "Misdemeanor"
Millie Jackson, "Hurts So Good"'
Johnnie Taylor (The Natural Wailer), "Cheaper to Keep Her"
Roberta Flack, "Killing Me Softly" which Dave -- inexplicably -- has never played.

Check one off the checklist for Mshray!

As for "Ants in My Pants" -- I heard this for the first time ever yesterday, on Felix Hernandez's Rhythm Revue.  W00T!

So how exactly did an R. Crumb catchphrase make it to Motown?

Pre-emptive 10-way BOS tie from Gaz.  But special mention to Barry White b/c I always associate his early hits with a Western Addition bar called Chances.  When I first moved to SF in fall '96, that was one of my regular haunts, and they had Barry's greatest on the juke, which was my introduction to his catalogue.  Same was true of War.  So with both artists I often flash back to riding the 71 tipsily back to the Tenderloin.

Actually, he pronounces it "stick" instead of "Shtick".  Not enough Jews in the studio, obviously.

This implies that there's a BOS yet to come in this category.  Did Bobby Womack or Lyn Collins ever get verklempt on wax?

My association with "So Very Hard to Go": when I made the decision to leave SF for Boston, I was walking through Yerba Buena gardens listening to 10@10 one morning, and this played as I watched kids playing on a sunny May morning.  The song rang all so true for my state of mind: I hated leaving but knew it was necessary.

Dave's got a new logo on the 10@10 page. Not sure if I think it's an improvement or not.
