Title: 16 Dec 2016: it's... a Very '80s Xmas
Post by: RGMike on December 16, 2016, 09:55:34 AM
10 great tunes plus 3 bonus tracks and -- impressively -- only 3 of the 13 are from A Very Special Christmas.

Bleah, not jazzed about this one. Unless there's some Horny Holidays from Mojo Nixon. Will listen at 10 anyway.

Did anybody know who did the Scope commercial from the last show?

Unexpected start from Billy Squier. I'll give an early HM to Dave Edmunds.

Ooh, the only good version of "Frosty" by Leon Redbone and Dr. John. BOS.

BOS for Squeeze!

Haven't heard most of these tunes. Most of 'em are pretty enjoyable.

indeed, it's a dreadful version (Madonna, of course). VS Xmas was supposed to be artists covering classics in the style of their own hits (Mellencamp came closest IMHO) and if Madge had done a "Material Girl"/Like a Virgin"-ish "Santa Baby" that might've worked. But instead she channeled Betty Boop. FAIL.

Guessing it's Cyndi Lauper. Yeah, not her best effort.

ETA: Just saw the setlist, which says it's Madonna. Wow, then it's REALLY not her best effort. This blows.
