I'm not the expert for 83. No idea what's on.

it's Crock o' Seagals, "Wishing". A perfectly acceptable TOTHC, if a bit mellow.

"Wishing" by Flock of Seagulls.
ETA: JINX!

We were here not long ago (9/28 to be exact) & you all were complaining about "Fascination" being overplayed.
Hopefully Dave won't repeat any songs from that set, so as to avoid such recriminations.
ETA: In addition to the Freak Out & Blog-only All-request Strictly Instrumental sets, Here are the years we've hit since last visiting '83:
69, 70, 72, 74, 76, 77, 78, 79, 80, 81, 82, 84, 85, 86, 87, 91, 92, 93

VHM Burning Down the House.
Agreed, but like many albums, the biggest hit from this one is one of my least favortite songs from it. Still good though.
HM, Murder by Numbers. Pretty decent Police song...
-
WOS to the overplayed "Murder By Numbers." I'd rather go way left-field and get something like Eddie Rabbitt or the Gap Band.
-
as the Iraq death toll on US soldiers tops 2000, Sting's words from 22 years ago ring truer than ever:
Murder is the sport of the elected. You don't even need to lift a finger of your hand.
-
Didn't we just get "I.G.Y." from one of the other shows yesterday? Regardless, HM to where the lights are bright and joy is complete.
-
from "Murder by Numbers" to "uptown, it's murder out in the streets". Nice, Dave.
proxy of cairo, "Green Flower Street"

Amen, brother.

If Dave would ever play all of "Holiday Road," it's be an easy BOS winner.
-
Name that clip. I'm clueless.
-
WooHoo! BOS Burning Sensation. It's been a while.
Chair dancing in my home office...

Damn, you beat me to it (almost-jinx). Instead we get a burning sensation.

HM "Holiday Road"
Sorry I missed you & POC at the benefit last night, Rod. I had a series of mishaps getting down there. I hope you had fun and thanks for going!
Alicat's avatar is Nicolette Sheridan if I'm not mistaken. She's available now, according to the gossip columns.
I'm gonna give an Honorable Flashback to the Katrinafied "Belly of the Whale" only because it, like, totally reminds me of, like, my senior year.
-

National Lampoon's Vacation. I've never even seen the movie and I recognized it.
-
Dave probably overplays "Belly Of The Whale", too, but I still like it. Not many songs can get this much mileage out of a single metaphor without killing it (imho).
And any song that can effectively incorporate bouillabaisse in the lyrics gets extra credit.

Hell no, It's me!

Well, it's been quite a while since Dave's done Belly of the Whale, if you ask me. And the song makes me happy.
Yeah, the benefit was cool, good to see poc perform, as always. Also, Raszty playing his Uke was cool.

Or your husband's.

Best Bass of Set: Duran Duran. No one ever notices John Taylor's Chic-inspired basslines.

Is that really Nicolette? I thought it looked more like Jessica Simpson, but I just know you wouldn't do that to us.

I DO!

VHM to one of their least-willfully-obscure lyrics. "Her name is Kat-Rio..."

No I wouldn't. It is indeed Miss Sheridan.

I meant no disrepect to the song. I like it, too. As for it's Katrina staus. (shrugs) I dunno.
Let's just forget I said anything. That Nicolette Sheridan's hot, isn't she?
-
BOS "Mirror Man". Much better than "Fascination".

Next time y'all are over at my house I'll have to screen The Sure Thing for you, so you can see what she looked like (as the titular character) when she was 22.
Hey, it's not "Fascination", so I can give a VHM to Human League "Mirror Man". Maybe someday Dave will play "The Lebanon". Well, probably that's asking too much.
-
BOS "Mirror Man".
Drug reference? sniff sniff
-
BOS "Mirror Man". Much better than "Fascination".
Indeed, I agree. But what Motown tune are they borrowing liberally from? It's on the tip of my tongue.

I always thought it was Capt & Tenille, "Love Will Keep us Sedaka"

She went on to be the female lead in the kinda crappy Gary Cole TV show "The Night Caller", about a DJ who solves mysteries. Or something. She was quite fetching back in the day. Not that she's a plate of tripe now- but back then? Yow! So hot you could get a blister.

I like today's Dilbert & had to share:

research reveals,
...Most obviously, there's the Motown sound (Philip revealed in interviews that he was emulating both Levi Stubbs' Get Right Back To Where We Started From and The Jacksons' Triumph - (he even went as far as to try to get Quincy Jones to produce, but later claimed this was a ploy to get Martin Rushent to reduce his fees!),
but there's also a clever manipulation of the riff
from ABBA's "Rock Me", and for League fans only, a
chord sequence lifted from Travelogue's "The
Touchables".

The 4 Tops did a cover of Maxine Nightingale??? When?? Or is he talking about a different song entirely? News to me.
