Title: 1 April 2014: "Fool" songs

AL soliciting requests, in addition to 'foolish' movie/tv/other clips.

'twould be foolish to miss this one.  Actually, it's one of those annual sets that's always pleasant but rarely earth-shattering (like Tax Day or Earth Day, both coming soon).   I still say we need a "Jesus Rock" set on Good Friday, but i've given up hoping for that.

For comp's sake, from the Drive:

The Beatles   Fool On The Hill     15.4%
The Rolling Stones   Fool To Cry     3.8%
Def Leppard   Foolin'     1.3%
Foghat   Fool For The City     7.7%
Styx   Fooling Yourself     5.1%
Led Zeppelin   Fool In The Rain     12.8%
Aretha Franklin   Chain Of Fools     6.4%
The Doobie Brothers   What A Fool Believes     10.3%
The Who   Won't Get Fooled Again     28.2%

I think one can extend that to most 'themed' sets - about 90% of them range from ok/pleasant to awful (the Giants' opening day set from 2011 comes to mind). Once in a blue moon, we get something awesome, like AL's ode to radio. But yeah, I think radical said at least once something to effect regarding theme sets: Pass

One thing I'll say for RR: she (or Rosalie, or Bill) did manage some surprisingly good theme sets in her tenure, usually for unexpected reasons (President's day etc). I hope AL manages a few off-the-beaten-path Fool songs -- that Drive set above is a pretty fucking obvious collection of FFs.

Good point - that might have been the best aspect about the RR era.

Someone requested Chris Rea's "Fool (If You think It's Over)" for Monday's '78 set and i thought "she'll save that for Tuesday".  Didn't see it on any of the sets posted for this morning so far. I do love that one.

I won't complain, cause it always reminds me of a return trip from Hawaii with Mr. Bishop on the plane. We hung out at the baggage claim and all his road stuff showed up on the carousel. OK, so I didn't say anything, but it was kinda cool. I sort of recognized him on the plane, but couldn't place him. Pretty sure he was not in 1st class.

sometimes TuneGenie is just wonky, i think. The Peak did a 1973 set today and amidst a bunch of off-format rarities, it was Dr John's "Right Place Wrong Time" that didn't show up.

Actually, it's one of those annual sets that's always pleasant but rarely earth-shattering (like Tax Day or Earth Day, both coming soon).

I think it's that way -- hit or miss -- with all 10@10s.  One of my favorite AL theme sets was
her nautical show on 12-Oct-10 to commemorate Fleet Week.

A lot of theme sets are related to holidays or other annual events, and when associated songs
become perennials then the concept runs the risk of getting stale.  We're seeing that a little
with the St. Patrick's Day sets featuring Irish music.  Dave avoided this by taking different
perspectives (songs about green for St. Patrick's Day; Valentine's Day sets about breakups
or sex).  Dave also had his regular theme sets like Soul Patrol and Strictly Instrumental, which
are broad enough to offer great variety.
