Probably won't be around for this one, so take copious notes! Hopefully it will be a good one today.

quite possibly '60s or '70s. or not.

Does anybody know the stream address that doesn't use the player? I can't find it anymore. My company is supposedly not allowing streaming, but in reality, it blocks websites that it knows about. So I can sometimes get away with the stream URLs in Winamp. Thanks!

I take it that rules out iHeart? Because KFOG is on there too. I use an old Walkman to listen to 10@10 over-the-air.

Yeah, so it would seem. I haven't used iHeart, but our filter recognizes it.

dumb question: do you have a smart phone?

So is the streamtheworld.com stream out? This is the one I use, 'cause it loads up quickly and doesn't have the annoying ad before the stream kicks in:

I do. And that would work. Good question ;)

1969! Kinks, "Victoria" to start. "Anna-lisa, is my queen"

I suppose I shouldn't look askance at any 1960s set, but having this today means it may be a few weeks before we get to have an Annalisa-created 60s set in which to revel.
-
Laugh-In Fickle Finger of Fate award (to baseball managers who banned facial hair!) --> Zappa "Peaches en Regalia" two BOSes in a row from me, neither terribly rare but always welcome

I'm gonna predict her first week will be a 5-decade sweep, possibly including our first 2004 excursion.
VHM Chiacgo -- only the beginning, indeed!

uber-LN1: Sly at a county fair in the country sun.
-
Just joined with Chicago, now enjoying Sly -- I still enjoy both songs, overplayed though they may be...
-
LN2: a godness on a mountain top. "I'm Your Penis", as we used to sing it back then.

uber-LN1: Sly at a county fair in the country sun.
I def heard "county pear" just now.
BOS, although I missed everything before Chicago

OMG: Zager & Evans. The Summer of '69 writ large.
-
Welcome to DeKamp! I'd call "We're Not Gonna Take It" pretty LN too. This set could use a nice obscurity about now.
-
I'm grateful for any time I hear the last track of Tommy

Agreed about the obscurity, but I have a feeling "2525" may have been it.
That and this clip from Midnight Cowboy.
Btw, I am with Geoff on the Tommy cut. Always necessary.
-
Midnight Cowboy --> "Everybody's talkin" Gee, I'd've never guessed THAT segue was coming. ::) Sorry: uber-LN4.
-
Since it's a Fred Neil song, I'd HM it, but yes quite a FF
-
Moon launch --> "Aquarius/Sunshine In" Another one I love, but... come on.
-

in the 1968 set the Cap'n posted in the "Alternative takes" thread, he used the Spanky & Our Gang version, which I've really come to love.
-
my wife and I and a singer who was the teacher of a classroom of multiple-disability kids played both the end of Tommy and Aquarius/Let The Sunshine In. Quite a memorable experience.

Nothing touches the original, but a different year too.

Still... me likes...

and we close with "Oh darling", a Beatle song i'm not terribly fond of. Charles Brown shoulda sued.
Seriously underwhelmed today.

Totally agree.
It's really hard for me to think of any Beatles songs that I never really liked, but this is one of them...

"I want You (She's So Heavy)" is perhaps my least-fave -- I find it turgid and endless -- but when i figured out years later how much "Darling" sounds like "Please Come Home for Xmas" I was floored.

I don't dislike it, but I'm not an avid fan either. I could hear Wings doing this. Possibly one of the things that drove a wedge between John and Paul (besides Yoko)?
-
This set reminds me in some ways of RR's first effort.... BTW, I do like "I Want You (She's So Heavy)"

never took to I Want You or Oh, Darlin. They must've been smoking some ponderous weed back then.

I'll have to post my '69 set later this evening...

I see no reason to think that, particularly since it seems that there has been some loosening of
what is acceptable w.r.t. repeating decades. But it brings up yet another sign that the selections
aren't truely random -- if they were, the gaps between successive visits to the same year would
show more variation. In any event, I think that we'll get a pre-1972 set within the first couple
of weeks.
-
BTW, what got BOS today?

The Midnight Cowboy clip is something of a frequent flyer, especially during the DM era.
Lots of room to go deeper for a great Tommy cut. The Acid Queen would be a bust-out,
as would Sally Simpson. Underture has only appeared once.

It was a somewhat pleasant set, but in total was not even the sum of its parts. A bit of a
disappointment considering that 1969 is one of the strongest years.
-
BTW, what got BOS today?
Oh crap. I heard it but it didn't stick. It was either The Beatles and/or The 5th Dimension,
or Zager & Evans.

I'll be the voice of dissent here -- I quite like both of them. "Oh, Darlin" was my drunken campfire song when I was younger (I'm sure if you were a neighbor camper, you probably didn't care for it either). And I like the heaviness repetition at the end of "I Want You (She's So Heavy)". It's as close to headbanging rock as the Beatles ever got.
