Well, we see that two of the regional 10@10's gave us standard year sets, so who knows? But I'll bet on a Valentine's set.
-
"Point/Counterpoint" -- love pro and con. Me likey. Another concept cribbed from Dave who started out doing "Dissenting Opinion" VD sets and then (iirc) segue-ing to half-n-half ones.
PsyFurs, "Love My way" to start.

TOTHK - The Psychedelic Furs "Love My Way" - VD Day point / counterpoint (one of the concepts I had for my set)

The Peak rarely does theme sets -- not even the obvious ones everyone else does like Halloween. It's my only complaint about them. So I wasn't surprised they did 1999 today.

Well, at least she's stayed on theme so far.
And this is an impressive song, FF it may be.

I like the song, particularly the percussion, but it's still kind of lightweight.

Even though this sounds vaguely familiar, I'll give it a NTM.

Gomez "Girlshapedlovedrug"
nice rarity -- one of those songs that made a brief splash and then disappeared off the face of the earth.

10cc "I'm Not In Love"

ETA: I would have chosen a cover version of this song...
-
10cc "I'm Not In Love"
I Hear FP complaining already.
-
"I'm Not in Love" -- well, OK, but Dave's anti-love selections were a tad more creative. (And I say that as a big 10cc fan, generally.)

To keep up with her recent sets, she should've played the Will To Power version.

one of DM's "Love Stinks" sets from 2007:
1. J. Geils Band - Love Stinks
2. Meatloaf - Paradise By the Dashboard Light (BEST OF SET!!)
3. Alanis Morissette - You Oughta Know
4. Nilsson - You're Breaking My Heart
5. Rolling Stones - It's All Over Now
6. Carly Simon - That's the Way I Always Heard it Should Be
7. Paul Simon - 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover
8. Ben Folds 5 - Song for the Dumped
9. Nazareth - Love Hurts
10. Eagles - Already Gone
BONUS TRACK: Joe Jackson - Happy Loving Couples
-
#7, a fairly uninspired choice.

I would've expected an LN here

There should be an 'uninspired' option - not quite LN or FF, but not exactly out-of-the-box either.

Would have chosen Tom Jones' cover version (!)

I will say that RR's pro-love selections have mostly been un-sappy. I mean, we coulda got some real schmaltz.
"Let's Go To Bed" gets a pass in this context, even tho' the Cure are prime LN offenders on 10@10 generally.

I think I'd give the set a "C" in general - yes, there were a couple of obvious choices, but there really weren't any terrible ones.
-
1. "Love My Way", Psychedelic Furs
2. “I Love You Goodbye”, Thomas Dolby
3. “Thankyou”, Dido
4. “Fools In Love”, Joe Jackson
5. "Girlshapedlovedrug", Gomez
6. “I’m Not In Love”, 10cc
7. “All You Need Is Love”, Beatles
8. “Love Stinks”, J. Geils Band
9. “Love Plus One”, Haircut 100
10. “Let’s Go To Bed”, Cure

Missed most of it due to a 10am meeting (caught the end of the Cure song) so will listen later today when it gets posted. Meantime, I'll give the Cap'n's offering a spin.

and as a areminder, here's RR's set from last year -- generally greeted with derision, as she billed it as a countdown of the top ten love songs of all time.
10. Percy Sledge - When A Man Loves A Woman
(Commercial -- Tom Shane)
9. The Pretenders I'll Stand By You
(Movie: Ghost)
8. Righteous Brothers - Unchained Melody
(Commerical -- It feels like love)
7. Peter Garbiel - In Your Eyes
6. Sonny and Cher - I've Got You Babe
5. The Postal Service - Such Great Heights
(Movie: All About Eve)
4. Billy Joel - Just The Way You Are
(Movie: Valley Girl)
3. Modern English - I'll Melt With You
2. Elton John - Your Song
1. Something - The Beatles
-
One of my favorite Valentine's Day sets was Dave's 2003 "sex" set:
2/14/03 - Friday!! Today on 10 at 10 it's...SEX (for Valentine's Day)!!
1. Beatles - Why Don't We Do it in the Road
2. Tubes - Don't Touch Me There
3. Commodores - Brick House
4. George Michael - I Want Your Sex
5. Digital Underground - Sex Packets
6. Barry White - Never Never Gonna Give You Up
7. J. Geils Band - Give it to Me
8. Marvin Gaye - Sexual Healing
9. Frank Zappa & the Mother's of Invention - Dinah-Moe-Hum (Best of Set!!)
10.The Chakachas - Jungle Fever

10cc "I'm Not In Love"
I Hear FP complaining already.
I think the most valid complaint was that this song is actually a pro-love song, and it appeared in the set in an "anti-love" slot (if we're alternating pro, con, pro, con...) The protagonist is protesting falsely, and he's very much in love. This song always confused me as a kid. Plus the interlude where the woman sings "Be quiet - big boys don't cwy.. big boys don't cwy... big boys don't cwy..." What the hell?
Dickie Goodman's Mr Jaws used this bit.

This is its ninth appearance, which is the low end of the middle-range in terms of frequency.
Six of those have been post-DM, including two last year, which would account for the impression
that we've been hearing it a lot lately. Still, BOS -- this is a beautiful song with some poignant
significance for me at the moment.
-
"I'm Not in Love" -- well, OK, but Dave's anti-love selections were a tad more creative. (And I say that as a big 10cc fan, generally.)
Anti-love? Actually, the way this song strikes me is that while the guy is trying to tell the girl that
he doesn't love her and was just using her, the reality is that he has fallen for her. I'm not even
sure that she's there -- it's like he's practicing his speech in front of the mirror, but he (and we) can
see that he can't even convince himself that what he's saying is true. Elvin Bishop has the more
well-known song on this theme, and there are others.
This is exactly the kind of sappy-sounding song that I usually dislike, but for some reason I've
always enjoyed this one. BOS.
ETA: I shoulda read ahead... I see Tinka Cat has already made my point. I agree.
-
BOS "Love Stinks", of course. Essential in a set like this.

I second the LN, but I have to give Renee points for this set overall. I haven't thought much
of her theme sets so far, and while not great, today was good. In particular, with a couple of
exceptions, she avoided the usual Valentine's Day choices. It certainly should be easy enough
to do that -- what other topic could possibly be more celebrated in song than love?
