I kid you not. Dave's taking suggestions. Sez that "some guy" has been nagging him to do this for 10 years. Figures he'd wait until the Fair became passe...
I'll be in a meeting at 10, so take copious notes!

If you were listening later you heard me suggest "All The Young Dudes" and then try to duck giving Dave a 'Wikipedia' definition of the fair. "I'm not of that ilk", sez I. But I also mentioned that last year we were in the vicintity & strolled thru, and I had to explain to my 5-yr old about seeing men's bare buttocks.
"Look Daddy, that man has buttcrack!"
"Yes son, he sure does."

LOL! more like "that man's butt is on crack!" Someone suggested the Tubes "Don't Touch Me There". Pete's "Rough Boys" is another, maybe Bowie's "Boyz Keep Swinging" (which DM's never played I don't think) but I'm kind of at a loss to come up with 10. Oh Gaz....
-
OK a few more:
Ohio Players, "Pain"
Stooges (or Joan Jett), "I Wanna Be Your Dog"
X-ray Spex, "Oh Bondage Up Yours"
The Normal (or Grace Jones), "Warm Leatherette"
Pansy Division, "Fem in a Black Leather Jacket"
-
Judas Priest: "Hell Bent For Leather" (it's actually about street racing....)

I predict we'll DEFINITELY hear that one.

Well, you are our resident psychic!
I bet we'll hear "Whip It" by DEVO, too.
Maybe even "When the Whip Comes Down" by the Rolling Stones.

actually those are two great choices I can't believe I didn't think of. You may take the psychic crown today.

I'd kill to hear The Normal (tho' I own it on the Rhino New Wave Hits of the 80's, vol. 1).
Howsabout the Divinyls "Fine Line Between Pleasure and Pain", (on a later vol. of that same collection).
Didn't anyone suggest "Lola" yet?
-
assume the position!
WHO!!!! Rough Boys

"Lola" would be one tired selection, IMHO -- it's in regular KFOG *AND* 10@10 rotation. Hope he goes for more intreresting stuff.
-
Pete's "Rough Boys" is another.
unclear if that was another caller suggestion or was it your own?
"I want to bite and kiss you."
-
I'd be shocked if we didn't hear the Devo, and probably Lou Reed's Walk on the Wild Side, although it's an obvious choice, it'd be conspicuous by its absence.

...which is exactly why I'm slightly astonished no Foghead suggested it.

BOS - STONES!!!!!
excellent choice, Dave!
-
#2 Stones-Slave
An excellent choice! Although this means When the Whip Comes Down probably ain't gonna happen.

Jim, you get to be Garth because A) you're blonder than I am & B) Garth/Urth has more similarity.

Whip it!
-
"Whip It" was playing on my car stereo CD driving the kids to school this a.m. Kids dig Devo.
Step on a crack, break your mama's back.
-
HOLY SHIT!
he did NOT just play "39 Lashes" from JCS!

Whip it GOOD.

Obligatory Tubes.
-
Followed by Take Me I'm Yours, from Squeeze, and the Don't Touch Me There, The Tubes. Love this last--takes me back to high school.
Not sure what the soundbite in between was tho--it had a vaguely Mel Brooks tone to it.
-
HM to Roxy Music "Slave to Love"
-

His original The Producers (the movie, natch)

Ah, Tattooed Love Boys--of course! A natural.

I was hoping we get to hear a snippet of "Now You're Doing The French Mistake" from Blazing Saddles.
Let's Get 'Em Girls!!
Hey, just occurred to me, what about Dire Straits "Les Boys"?
Do a little S&M...it's all in fun now
-

How many of these songs were from 80-81? I know the Townshend & Devo were both 80, as was the Pretenders, and the Stones was 81. What's the vintage on the Squeeze tune? Quick, to Allmusic!
ETA: the Squeeze tune was 78, from their first album.
-
BOS to Depeche Mode, if only because this is a typically lackluster set & Dave doesn't play enough DM. You'd think he'd like their initials.
I just said this on Wednesday. Just like the Spanish Inquisition, I didn't expect "Master & Servant" to be the next Depeche Mode song we'd hear.
p.s. to Urth, this is from '84, iirc.
-
And Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick, Ian Dury. I had thought of S&D&R&R, don't know why this didn't occur to me as well.
-
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ian Dury, "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick"
BEST OF WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!

-
And Pat Benatar, Hit Me With Your Best Shot. Probably the least necessary song of the set.
-
Thanks for thinking of me in regards to those comics for sale, Ali. I do enjoy them- but I don't really collect them anymore.
-
Just back from mtg -- sounds like it was pretty damn good, even without most of our suggestions (I did email my list to Dave, and "Rough Boys" was the most obvious one). No "Warm Leatherette"?
Sticking around for the boner, er, I mean bonus track. Then on to CGSS.
ETA: I love that Dave played South Park clips. Mr Slave rules.
Bonus track: "Wipping Post", har har.
-
Bonus Whipping Post.
Yay.
-

Wow, I missed quite a party, didn't I?
First, some self-indulgence: This piece has gone live:
http://www.villagevoice.com/music/0539,mccombs,68183,22.html
Now, for the set. Damn, nice choices. If I'd been guessing, or making requests, I would've taken a more libertine, less leather-and-slave, look at Folsom (by the time I attended for the first time, that's the vibe I got from it), and gone with Berlin's "Sex (I'm a ...)" (best song about roleplay ever) and Velvet Underground, "Venus in Furs" (I'm surprised none of you mentioned it).

You know, I was thinking that too. I went once, ten year or so ago, and though there was heavy leather going on, I thought the set leaned a little too heavily on the BSDM theme. It's the most obvious aspect, the most in your face, but the overall feeling I got was that people were being free, being who they were, indulging in their fantasies, whatever they were. I liked that, though their fantasies didn't exactly match mine. Plus, there was music.

"Uh-oh, this could mean trouble . . ."
I don't think I've ever heard that soundbite from Don before! Has Dave used it before, or does he get DP to record new material?

new to me but I doubt it's newly recorded -- Dave's probably got archived stuff he's never touched.
Mmmm... the smell of burning leather...
-
"Stop snivelin'... you're gonna make some plastic surgeon a rich man!"
-
"he hit me with his best shot ... and it felt like a kiss!"
BOS (tie): Pretenders & Ian Dury.
How appropriate the set was sponsored by California Closets. And note, Gaz -- that same "new" Pardo sound bite is being used in the new Marathon promo.
