I predict a passable late-'70s set tomorrow. Either that or 2002.
-
TOTHK - David Byrne "Like Humans Do" - 2001
-
well, I was close. 2001. David Byrne TOTHK.
-
TOTHK - David Byrne "Like Humans Do" - 2001
Big BOS from me.
This is definitely far far away from my favorite musical year -- but I really like this song.
-
Weezer "Island In The Sun"
-
uber-uber-LN: Weezer. KFOG has been playing this song 20 times a week lately. Sheesh.
-
311 "Amber"
-
311 "Amber"
was KFOG playing this in 2001? Not ringing a bell.
-
Dirty Vegas "Days Go By"
ETA: This charted in 2002, and was used in a Mitsubishi Eclipse TV ad campaign.
-
Dirty Vegas "Days Go By"
also NTM.
-
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! uber-uber-uber-LN Train.
-
Dirty Vegas "Days Go By"
also NTM.
sounds like another song I've heard, with heavy processing on the vocals. What's the original?
-
Train "Drops Of Jupiter (Tell Me)"
-

Reminded me of Cher's "Believe"
-
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! uber-uber-uber-LN Train.
Hate the Train.
-
I have to report that when Train came on in my advisory class, they started singing along!
-
Drops of Jupiter: from the "songs that should never be played on 10@10, ever" files.

and in 2001 those kids were... 5? 6?
-
Luce "Good Day"
-
uber-LN3: Luce.
-
uber-LN3: Luce.
Played out.
-
What would you request in a 2001 set? Curious to know...
-
Drops of Jupiter: from the "songs that should never be played on 10@10, ever" files.
Ditto Luce's "Good Day" IMHO.
-
9/11 into Neil Young "Let's Roll"
-

I only had one song on my 2001 "wish list": Pink's "Get the Party Started", which AL actually played.
-
9/11 into Neil Young "Let's Roll"
I'll actually BOS this -- Neil attempting to be topical, regardless of how successful he was, still beats Train being insipid.
-
Bruce Springsteen "My City Of Ruins"
-
BOS2 Brooooce from the post-9/11 Concert, "My City of Ruins"
-
Barry Bonds hits HR #71 into Better Than Ezra "Misunderstood"
-
that was actually an interesting anger-followed-by-healing twofer, whether intentional or accidental.
VHM: Barry Bonds breaks the record.
-
Better Than Ezra made a comeback in 2001? Somehow that had escaped my attention. ;)
-
Yep, their single from this album was "Extraordinary." This was supposed to be the second single but their record company went kaput before it was released.
-
Nelly Furtado "I'm Like A Bird"
ETA: An acoustic performance, not the studio recording
-
Nelly Furtado "I'm Like A Bird"
This was a big pop hit, yes? VHM on that basis alone.

Yes, but I wish Renee had played the actual studio recording rather than this live rendition...
-
Renee: BOS Bruce Springsteen
-
Necessary Grades/Commentary:
David Byrne: A (it was a staple back in 01/02, not so much anymore)
Weezer: D- (see Mike's comment)
311: B (KFOG did give this a couple of spins, but more of an alt hit)
Dirty Vegas: A- (Top Ten pop)
Train: F- (don't need to explain)
Luce: B+ (first heard on KFOG, later an Alice staple)
Neil YOung: B+ (sounded good today)
Springsteen: C (sorry, kind of a downer today)
Better Than Ezra: A (most surprising entry of the set - is this the first time something besides "Good" was played on 10@10?)
Nelly Furtado: D- (only avoids F by being a different version)
-
10 2001 requests:
"Clint Eastwood", Gorillaz (RR has actually played "19-2000")
"Shit On The Radio", Nelly Furtado (although actually a 2002 hit, it did come from the same album as "I'm Like A Bird")
"Walking In My Blue Jeans", Sophie B Hawkins (also known as "Strange Thing") - if you really want to be daring, play "The Darkest Childe"
"All You Wanted", Michelle Branch (personal guilty pleasure)
"2003", Nina Gordon
"Haunted" or "Hey Pretty", Poe
"Evolution Revolution Love", Tricky f/ the guy from Live
"Schism", Tool
"Cherry Lips - Go Baby Go!" (Garbage)
"Speed Kills", Bush - a song whose title was changed to "The People That We Love" due to 9/11
BONUS: "How You Remind Me", Nickelback, just to see the Gsnipe reaction. Personally, I don't think the song's at all bad.

You never made it as a wise man.
