anything would be an improvement over yesterday's LN-fest. Or... would it??
-
TOTHK - Meat Loaf "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" - 1977
-
David Bowie "Heroes"
-
Late arrival. Not bad so far, but not earth-shattering either. "Heroes" has certainly made more than its share of appearances, swell as it may be.
-
I've always liked "Swingtown", tho' it's hardly necessary either, sh-bomp sh-bomp sh-bomp.

Kinda what I was thinking. Such a great song (and sounding very nice this am) which makes it difficult to bitch about it.
Steve Miller on the other hand...
-
Steve Miller Band "Swingtown"
-
Nice, Swingtown -- haven't heard this in a while -- overplayed but still a classic.
-
VHM Soft'N'Fade -- I bought a ton o' that stuff back in the day. And cute segue into "Jeans On" by Lord David Dundas. VHM for cheeze quotient alone.

I hear the LN complaints about this one, but I'm more in line with yessongs' opinion. I've enjoyed these three opening songs.
-
Soft 'n Fade commercial into David Dundas "Jeans On"
-
Boz Scaggs "Lido Shuffle"
-
a deep track from Silk Degrees woulda been MUCH better than "Lido".
-
Boz Scaggs "Lido Shuffle"
Probably an LN, but I always enjoy this one, too.

"We're All Alone", perhaps? ;D
ETA: Which happened to be the flip side of "Lido Shuffle"...

Feel like I'm beating the same old horse, but this was released a year earlier, iirc. Does it qualify under the chart action rule?
-
VHM disco Star Wars. "The cheeze is strong with this one"
-
Star Wars into Meco "Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band"!

the 45 was a hit in '77, so it's "legal"
-
Star Wars into Meco "Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band"!
Missing the Bill Murray vocals :)

Renee's OK with this one, the song charted in early '77...
-
James Taylor "Traffic Jam"

So cheesy but so fun, at least once in a while.
-
James Taylor "Traffic Jam"
Damn. No really -- damn, I didn't need to hear this today. Proxy of GazWOS.
-
Elvis Costello "Watching The Detectives"
-
"Watching the Foolish Master Blaster Detectives in Love"
-
Jimmy Carter on the Middle East into The Doobie Brothers "Livin' On The Fault Line"
-
BOS McDoobs on da faultline, yo.
-
BOS McDoobs on da faultline, yo.
Nice fake jazz.
-
Ram Jam "Black Betty"
-
beloved by many, but "Black Betty" is uber-LN for me -- it's the "go-to" classic rock One-Hit-Wonder in multiple formats. Bam a LAM!

Agreed.
-
BOS, Doobs. That hardly ever happens.
Renee is all happy with herself...
-
Renee is very proud of herself today.
ETA: I wonder if dischead's head will explode (since '77 is his 2nd least fave year)...
-

"Nailed it!"
That's what her husband said last nite.

Bam a lam, indeed
-
Renee: 2-way tie for BOS between Meco and Elvis Costello
-
Renee is very proud of herself today.
Well, maybe it's the first time she's been allowed to put together a pre-80's set on her own.
-
Star Wars into Meco "Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band"!
It took me three attempts to see that movie, and each time it was a bit of an adventure. The
first time me and a couple of college buddies borrowed someone's car and drove forty miles
into Boston, but it was sold out. We ended up on the beach after midnight in Plymouth, where
there were some phosphorescent creatures in the surf.
-
Elvis Costello "Watching The Detectives"
Yes mon! I and I be watchin' dem crazy bald heads in Babylon on disya box mon! Irie!
BOS for the reggae beat, mon.
I like how the POV of the lyrics flip back and forth between the singer and what's happening on
the TV.
-
ETA: I wonder if dischead's head will explode (since '77 is his 2nd least fave year)...
My head is exploding, but it's due to stress in my life.
It's not that anything was particularly bad in this set, but rather that it hasn't held up with
repeated plays over time. I really don't need to hear that Meatloaf song more often than
once every three or four years. Even the Lido Shuffle is wearing thin.
I think there are natural cycles, and after the incredible high of late sixties, a corresponding low
was inevitable. Mainstream pop/rock was played out by the late seventies -- the creative energy
had moved into other genres.
If I compile a "cherry-picked" list for 1977 & 1978, some of the same names are going to show up.
