seems like we were just there...
but it's been nearly 2 months. Quite the Smiths rarity to start -- BOS1, naturally.
-
TOTHK - The Smiths "The Queen Is Dead"
-
TOTHK - The Smiths "The Queen Is Dead"
and a bustout, to boot.
-
Paul Simon "The Boy In The Bubble"
-
BOS2 "Boy in the Bubble" -- better than hearing "You Can Call Me Al" for the billionth time, certainly.
-
Through two songs, we've already got more interesting offerings than the last two sets.
-
Chris Isaak "Heart Full Of Soul"
-
Mr Cheekbones arrives to cover the Yardbirds. VHM.

A credible cover.
-
The Art Of Noise featuring Duane Eddy "Peter Gunn"
-
Art of Noise with a borderline-LN, "Peter Gunn". Props to Duane Eddy, however.
-
BOS Art Of Noise!
-
OMFG - Madonna "Open Your Heart"!
-
OMFG - Madonna "Open Your Heart"!
Absolute-a-diddly!
-
and the hits just --- OMFG! uber-BOS3 Madonna, "Open Your Heart", one of her very best 45s IMHO. and a bustout, methinks,

Chris Isaak was around back then?

Very slick segue.
-
Peter Gabriel "That Voice Again"

indeed it is, and when I searched I found this quote from me, in a 1986 thread from the Morey era:
"'86: Another year with great pop singles by Madonna ("Open Your Heart", "Papa Don't Preach") that we probably won't hear."
I believe we've now heard both of those songs.
LN PG, tho' at least it ain't "Sledgehammer"

Hey, it ain't "Red Rain" neither. PG was totally huge around this time, and I don't mean the bulge in his big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big.

VHM Family Ties.
BOS4 REM.

VHM Family Ties.
BOS4 REM.
Wow, NTM REM. Definitely sounds like a B-side.
ETA: Guess I have heard this before. But it doesn't ring a bell.
-
Family Ties into R.E.M. "Cuyahoga"
Renee is making a concerted effort today!
-
The Pretenders "My Baby"
-
VHM Pretenders, "My Baby". This certainly gets "Set of the Week" honors, ahtellyawhut.
-
Crowded House "World Where You Live"
-
and a Crowded House song that isn't "Don't Dream..." -- will wonders never cease?
-
Reagan on Iran-Contra into Steve Winwood "Higher Love"
-
Iran/Contra --> "Higher Love", the biggest LN we've heard in an otherwise fine set.
-
Renee: BOS R.E.M. (by a landslide); VHM The Smiths and Steve Winwood

well, I guess ya can't expect Fogheads to vote for Madonna. ;)
Given the mediocre past couple days, I came thisclose to passing on a 1986 set -- but it's nice to know Renee can still surprise in an unpromising year.

Renee did mention that Madonna got a few votes today!

Didn't Madonna - Material Girl win BOS a few weeks ago?

Madge was my BOS, though I didn't vote on KFOG's page or anything.
I didn't know (or more likely forgot ) that Chaka Khan was singing on Higher Love. She really brangs it! :)

I believe so. But I would also say that "Material Girl" and "Like A Virgin" are the 2 Madonna songs that even rockheads or people who never listen to Top 40 radio actually know. "Open Your Heart" (tho' it was a #1 single) is not on their radar, necessarily.

I resemble that remark!

Yes on the recent BOS for Material Girl. Vogue and to a lesser extent, Express Yourself
were also big hits that were hard to avoid. The videos for Like A Prayer and Erotica gained
some notoriety and publicity for their content, and so exposed those songs to an audience
beyond her fans. Most importantly, anyone who watched MTV in the '80s saw lots of Madonna
videos. I didn't even own a TV then, and I saw the video for Open Your Heart more than once.

Paul Simon "The Boy In The Bubble"
Another surprising -- in the sense that it hasn't already appeared on 10@10 -- bust-out.
