"The year they found the Titanic", sez Renee. That would be '85, tho' that doesn't mean we'll actually hear '85.

It's a possibility that we'll end up hearing '97 (maybe they found the Titanic when James Cameron's film was released). ::)
ETA: "The epitome of KFOG variety" sez Greg Gory about the upcoming set...

sadly, you could be right. "the year people my age first heard there was such a thing as the Titanic".
She just told Gory there would be "surprises"

TOTHK - SRV & Double Trouble "Look At Little Sister"
-
TOTHK - SRV "Look At Little Sister"
clearly not one of the surprises... LN1.
-
Bryan Ferry "Don't Stop The Dance"
-
Don't Stop the LNs: Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry makes their umpteenth appearance.
-
TOTHK - SRV "Look At Little Sister"
clearly not one of the surprises... LN1.
I'm getting unpleasant images of G.E. Smith's orgasm faces into SNL commercial breaks.
-
Phil Collins "Take Me Home"
-
oy: Genesis/Phil C "Take Me Home", LN3.
-
Phil Collins "Take Me Home"
We need a snoozing icon.
-
Phil Collins "Take Me Home"
Aw man, why am I the only one wearing a jacket at this party?

From Wiki, "No Jacket Required is the third solo album by English singer-songwriter Phil Collins, released on 25 January 1985. The album was named after an incident at The Pump Room in Chicago, where Collins was denied admittance to the establishment because of his attire."
"Do you know who I am ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!" At least he didn't call the album No Hair Required.

Attn haters! This Phil Collins song is great.
:)

Don't change the taste of Coke into Bryan Adams "Summer Of '69"
-
LN4 (!) Bryan Adams. I could use some 69 right now, but not this kind.
-
Maybe Renee's surprise for today's set is an all-LN set! ???
-
Godley & Creme "Cry"
-
LN4 (!) Bryan Adams. I could use some 69 right now, but not this kind.
Speaking of which: I remember some contemporary criticism of Adams for singing about 1969 because he was just 9 then, but maybe the apostrophe was just a clever disguise.
-
Godley & Creme "Cry"
Is this a worthy follow-up to "I'm Not in Love"?
-
Maybe the surprise is the lack of non-long obnoxious clips. Which has been nice, but too bad it's cancelled out by the 100% LN's, so far.

He's Canadian, so the metric version of 69 is actually 77.

Sting "Fortress Around Your Heart"
-
Godley & Creme "Cry"

as a huge 10cc fan, I loved this back then but I didn't really need it today.
This set has been un-Godley. Heh.
LN6 (!!) der Stingle.

Talking Heads "Road To Nowhere"
Indeed...
-
Maybe Renee's surprise for today's set is an all-LN set! ???
eeek -- you might actually be right.
-
BOS Christopher Walken and Grace Jones. But "View to a Kill" is hardly necessary either.
-
A View To A Kill into Duran Duran's "A View To A Kill"
-
BOS, Talking Heads.
BTW, I'm currently reading Byrnes' book. I like it so far, will give more when I am finished.
-

It seems to me there's been improvement in the "absurdly long clip" department, but it may just be me.
-
Talking Heads "Road To Nowhere"
Indeed...
At least the 1985 Pazz & Jop critics enjoyed this one.

and here's Tip O'Neill to Contra-dict you.
OMFG: uber-BOS FYC's fab cover of "Suspicious Minds"!!

Is this (one of) the suprise(s) Renee was hinting prior to this LN-fest set?
-
At least it's not LN, but it's not a huge surprise IMO. This one was in fairly prominent rotay during the DC era and has appeared on 10@10 before.
-
OMFG - MADONNA "Material Girl"
Surprise indeed!
-
OMFG - MADONNA "Material Girl"
Surprise indeed!
Ok, I'll give her this one.
-
and we close with a mild surprise: Madonna. VHM.
1.Look at Little Sister-Stevie Ray Vaughn
2.Don't Stop the Dance-Bryan Ferry
3.Take Me Home-Phil Collins
4.Summer of 69-Bryan Adams
5.Cry-Godley and Crème
6.Fortress Around Your Heart-Sting
7.Road to Nowhere-Talking Heads
(Bond. James Bond)
8.A View to a Kill-Duran Duran
(Sandanista. Good Clash album. Bad for Nicaragua)
9.Suspicous Minds-Fine Young Cannibals
10. Material Girl-Madonna
as FP points out on FB... this was very MTV. Only thing missing was "Money For Nothing"

OMFG - MADONNA "Material Girl"
Surprise indeed!
Not a hater. AL is.

Yep. Although AL did spice things up fairly often, credit where credit is due--Renee seems to have even less of an aversion to playing these types of songs.
-
"I wanna listen to the whole record..."
If she played Like A Virgin in its entirety for today's 10@10, that would definitely have been a surprise. :P

AL has a problem with Madonna personally. She wrote about it once.

As in, she met Madonna once and she was a real beyotch, or AL just has an issue with the way she's marketed herself?

I remember AL saying something about meeting Sheryl Crow and not liking her, but as has been pointed out in this forum before, Crow is hardly alone in that category. Still, it didn't stop AL from playing Crow. I think AL just didn't care for Madonna's music.

The latter. I think it was an old guard feminist thing. From what I recall, most of the feminists of the '80's and '90's loved Madonna. They "got" her.
Take what I'm writing with several grains of salt, though. It's never a good idea to put words into another person's mouth, especially based on a hazy recollection of a past (written) conversation. I'd just always wondered why Madonna was so scarce on '80's 10@10's, particularly since she is so iconic for that decade. I thought maybe it was KFOG's perception of its listeners' crunchy leanings. But AL indicated it was her decision based on her distaste for Madonna. Of that, I'm pretty sure.

I'm getting unpleasant images of G.E. Smith's orgasm faces into SNL commercial breaks.
Couldn't find a proper screen grab from G.E. Smith's SNL days, but this pic says it all:

If Renee had only played something else off of Little Creatures ("Road To Nowhere" is a FF).
