no promo so far today. (yesterday's aired in the 6am hour) I suspect we're in for '80s today.
ETA: nice to be wrong! '79 kicks off with the fantabulous "Stop Your Sobbing" uber-BOS1.
-
TOTHK - Pretenders "Stop Your Sobbing" - 1979!
-
Oy: easily one of the least-necessary of '79 LNs: CheapTrick "IWYTWM".
-
Cheap Trick "I Want You To Want Me"
-
The Cars "Candy-O"
-
Cars, "Candy-O", which I actually won't complain about. One of my faves of theirs. VHM.
-
Jimmy Carter into AC/DC "Highway To Hell"
-
Jimmeh C looks to the 21stCentury. It don't look good -- great segue to "Highway to Hell." Heh. BOS2 just because.
-
Oy: the *other* least-necessary LN: Mr Lowe, "CTBK"
-
Nick Lowe "Cruel To Be Kind"
-
Interesting pattern: BOS-LN-VHM-BOS-LN...
-
Neil Young "My My Hey Hey"
-
Interesting pattern: BOS-LN-VHM-BOS-LN...
My My: Neil is kinda LN too. I prefer the electric version, personally.
-
Michigan State is #1 -- uh, so?
Chic order clams on the half-a-shell. And roller skates, roller skates. I'd've preferred a more rare disco track, but there seems to be an effort to play at least one pop nugget per set in years like this, so OK.
-
Michigan State beats Indiana State (Magic Johnson beats Larry Bird) to win the NCAA Basketball Championship into Chic "Good Times"
-
Oy: LN3 or 4, the McDoobs, "WAFB"
-
The Doobie Brothers "What A Fool Believes"
-
LN5: RLJ & "Chuck E"
-
I'd've preferred a more rare disco track
Any specific tracks you had in mind?
Rickie Lee Jones "Chuck E.'s In Love"
-
The Jerk into The Specials featuring Rico + "A Message To You, Rudy"
-
BOS, The Pretenders
-
I'd've preferred a more rare disco track
Any specific tracks you had in mind?
BeeGees, "Love You Inside Out"
Streisand, "Main Event"
France Joli "Come to Me"
Isaac hayes "Don't Let Go"
Sylvester "Body Strong"
BOS3 Specials.
-
Renee: BOS Nick Lowe; VHM Pretenders & Specials
-
Renee: BOS Nick Lowe; VHM Pretenders & Specials
Once again the biggest LN wins. That's why they keep getting airplay, kids.

To my ears this set was a mess, with a high LN quotient (LNQ). At best, it rose to bland
and inoffensive.

I like that. Each song could have a max rating of 10, for very unnecessary, and a low of 0. Then total. This set, off the top of my head, at least 60.
I never need to hear "Cruel to be Kind" ever again. Or "I Want You to Want Me."

Would this be a descendant of the Good/Necessary ratings? I would add "What A Fool Believes" to the never-need-to-hear-again roster.

agreed on all of the above. I was actually surprised this one got a pass from the g-snipes, whith people gushing about the Nick Lowe, for example.
