"The year of Milli Vanilli" sez RR.
Jeebus: '93, '94, '93 again and now '89 in the course of 8 days??
ETA: as I noted on FB, if she actually *played* Milli Vanilli I'd be pleased. But I'm not holding my breath.
-
and right before an '89 set we get "Love Shack"? ... good gawd a'mighty.

Who knows? Maybe we'll be lucky enough to hear it again!

1988 - TOTHK - Jerry Harrison "Rev It Up"
Last played May 13th

of course! Renee's clue was misleading! Surprise! it's '88
and we get a song I *know* she played recently: "Rev it Up".
-
Feats doing their NRBQ imitation -- we've heard this fairly recently too iirc.
-
Little Feat "Let It Roll"
Last played February 28th

Of the many criticisms of Renee, this is one of the most valid - it appears she wikis when an album came out or something, without any regard for context. December 31, 1988: None of us had heard of Milli Vanilli
-
George Bush / Golden Girls PSAs into Steve Earle "Copperhead Road"
Last played December 10th
-
I adore Steve Earle, but we've heard "Copperhead Road" many times over the years, as great a song as it is. Lots of other good tunes on this LP: "The Devil's Right Hand" woulda made my day.
-
The Smithereens "Only A Memory"
Last played December 10th
-
an uber-LN from the SmithereeLNs.
-
Steve Winwood "Roll With It"
Last played May 13th (classic replay May 30th [from October 2nd])
-
oy vey: uber-LN "Roll With It"

And the first no-question hit we've heard in the last two days.
-
early Melisseridge. In retrospect, the use of non-gender-specific words and pronouns shoulda been a major clue here.
-
Melissa Etheridge "Bring Me Some Water"
Last played February 28th
-
Fine Young Cannibals - She Drives Me Crazy (charted in 1989)
Last played January 17th (also in a 1988 set)
Renee is driving RGMike crazy with this set so far... ::)
-
Jeezus H Fucking Christ: uber-uber-uber-LN in either '88 or '89, "FYC.
-
Who Framed Roger Rabbit? clip into Robert Palmer "Simply Irresistible"
Last played May 13th
-
Renee's just a pawn in Cumulus' game. You don't know how hard it is being a woman sucking like she does.
But the Jessica Rabbit --> "Simply Irresistable" segue was kinda sorta cute.
-
Bruce Hornsby & The Range "The Valley Road"

yeesh and sheesh. This has been a total snoozer with LNs up the wazoo.
-
Space shuttle Discovery launched into Robert Plant "Heaven Knows"
Last played April 2nd
-
"Heaven Knows" Percy is always welcome. VHM and best of a waaay-too-familiar lot.
-
Renee is loopy today...
-
I think you're a little loopy EVERY DAY, Renee.
-

Chart action aside, these songs without exception were getting airplay on the FM stations I was listening to in 88/89. Authentic yes, but I would not call any of these a deep track.
-
Per Renee: 2-way tie for BOS - Steve Earle and Robert Palmer
-
Jeezus H Fucking Christ: uber-uber-uber-LN in either '88 or '89, "FYC.
Hey, a black guy! :P

All too true. 5, 7, 8 and 9 were all Top Ten on the pop charts, whereas the rest fall into the LN category. I would agree that this was a pretty shitty set.

What a let-down the past week was... I didn't care much for any of the sets. Even Wednesday's
1973 was tepid and I found most items to be LN. And the two 1993 sets within days and
sharing a couple of songs to boot -- inexcusable. All this mediocrity after some encouragingly
good '60s outings and an apparent change for the better was disappointing.

Agreed -- a very odd turnabout. This week will tell the tale, methinks.
