I suspect it's an '80s day, unless we break the '90s embargo.
1987. We're going to hell in a bucket, all right. Instant LN/WOS.
-
Not my favorite GD song, but far from my least, too. I do appreciate a good "fuck you" song now and again. And once in a while they'd uncork a live version that just *ripped.* VHM.
-
oy: uber-LN2 Satriani. He's always in you. Hey, keep it in yer pants, bub.
-
You want LN, you got it. WOSatriani.
-
jeezus, LN3 Hiatt in the meantime. I swear RR played this in our last '87 visit.
-
set me free Rosalie. Damn, this sounds like a rerun, doesn't it?
-
Paul Carrack "Don't Shed A Tear"
-
Don't shed a tear for Mr Carrack -- he's very rich.
-
jeezus, LN3 Hiatt in the meantime. I swear RR played this in our last '87 visit.
Looking thru the 87 sets of the last year or so, I didn't spot the Hiatt (I was rushing so could have missed it) but I did notice a pattern of GD songs off of In the Dark. West LA, Touch of Gray, Throwin' Stones.
-
VHM Radio Days.
LN-infinity REM. If ever a set cried out for Poison's "Talk Dirty To Me", or Lisa Lisa, Company B, Expose etc... this is it.
-
R.E.M. "Finest Worksong"
-
R.E.M. "Finest Worksong"
REM shifts to arena rock. Nonetheless, this may be BOS-worthy.
-
World Party "Ship Of Fools"
-
it ain't '87 w/out U2. "that's the letter 'U'... and the numeral '2'..."
-
U2 "Bullet The Blue Sky"
-
John Mellencamp "Paper In Fire"
-
the paper, the paper, the paper's on fire. Burn, Mellencampah. Burn.
-
Icehouse "Electric Blue"
-
LN-whatevah Icehouse. This may be the most LN-centric set since the recent "renaissance" began. Odd, since Renee is Little Miss Eighties. Unless the PD is feeding her these setlists after all.
-
The Hiatt tune was last played Dec. 27.
The Carrack tune last appeared Feb. 8.
Mellencamp & Los Lobos songs were last played Mar. 22.
Icehouse appeared in the last '87 set (Apr. 29).
U2 (songs from The Joshua Tree) has appeared in every '87 set in the Renee era.
Ditto Grateful Dead (songs from In The Dark), save for one time (Dec. 27).
It's no wonder the '87 sets sound similar.
ETA: Did Renee sound less enthusiastic today? I missed the beginning, but she sure sounded sluggish on the backsell today.
-
Per Renee: 2-way tie for BOS - R.E.M. and U2; VHM Icehouse
-

Yeah, it was a step back from her recent enthusiasm -- another reason why i (at first) suspected it might be a rerun.
The only thing missing was Crowded House.

I agree with your assessment. It's certainly not the worst GD song *cough*Alabama Getaway*cough*,
and with the Dead the concert performances are more important than what they put down
on vinyl.

Memphis in the Meantime appeared once in 2010 and twice in 2012. BOS from me -- Hiatt at his
best.
Sure I like country music
And I like mandolins
But right now I need a telecaster through a vibro-lux turned up to ten...

True, sometimes when they weren't having a good day (Boreal Ridge) they could really sink their teeth into this one, and channel that pissed-off energy. I was also around for part of the filming of the video for this song. Lots of animals on set!
