Or so the clue of "When Wings and Northern Exposure came on the air" would indicate.
This is one of those years where the output/potential ratio is typically low.

well, the clues are back at least. My famed 1990 Wish list -- one of the few years I never got AL to play a request in:
Thieves in the Temple (Prince)
Black Cat -or- Escapade (Janet J)
Mentirosa (Mellow Man Ace)
All Around The World (Lisa Stansfield)
Close to You (Maxi Priest)
Just a Friend (Biz Markie)
Friends in Low Places (Garth Brooks)
Electric Boogie (Marcia Griffiths)
Poison (Bel Biv Devoe)
-
RR has only visited 1990 once (Nov. 20), but that particular episode has been rebroadcast twice as a "classic".
-
Predictions: Sinead O'Connor, Alannah Myles, INXS, Aerosmith, Faith No More, B-52s, UB40 and either MC Hammer or Vanilla Ice.
-
SRV gets supah-stitious, yo.

TOTHK - SRV & Double Trouble "Superstition"

Midnight Oil "Blue Sky Mine"
Was in the previous '90 set...
I'm more predisposed to liking Midnight Oil for political reasons, and it's no rarity, but does KFOG still play them outside of 10@10?
-
BOS cock-a-doody Kathy Bates in Misery.
uber-LN2 Jane's caught stealing.
-
At least it's not Jane Says. Good segue.

Yes. And I suspect now that the new regime is in place... even moreso.
-
Jane's Addiction "Been Caught Stealing"
-
ugh HFH time for Vanilla Ice!
-
Oy. Star Spangled Roseanne.
a prediction comes true, and sadly it's "Ice Ice Baby". One of the uber-uber-WOSes of all time.
-
Roseanne butchers the national anthem...
Vanilla Ice "Ice, Ice Baby"
-
Oy. Star Spangled Roseanne.
a prediction comes true, and sadly it's "Ice Ice Baby". One of the uber-uber-WOSes of all time.
perhaps this is a conceptual segue: cut from the crowd booing Roseanne to the radio audience booing Vanilla Ice!
-
TMBG with another LN -- in the context of 10@10 it's quite the frequent-flier.
-
TMBG "Istanbul Not Constantinople" hit number 6-6-6...

you're onto something-- certainly Roseanne's bleating makes Mr Van Winkle seem talented by comparison.

This BT song is LN even for a boring fart such as me.
-
LN 4 or 5 and WOS2 "But Anyway".
-
Blues Traveler "But Anyway"
-
WOS Blues Traveler.
-
The Church "Metropolis"
-
Church, "Metropolis" LN 5 or 6.
Back in Metropolis
George Stephanopolis
said "bitch, get on top of this"

Although there is a great little bass line at one point, and we sold the bass player one of our basses back in the day!
-
how this song became popular remains (wait for it) an Enigma.
-
Enigma "Sadeness (Part 1)"
-
how this song became opopular remains (wait for it) an Enignma.
Sometimes it seems like they just randomly throw a dance beat behind something, and see if people buy it.
-
I adore this song, so BOS...although the attempt at irony was blatantly generic.
I wish she would have played 2 Live Crew.

we're together in the old farts club today. And I've been agreeing with FP in g-snipes lately too. It's opposite week!
LN-infinity Gary Moore, good as his playing is.

as LN as this cut is, I have to BOS it for the mere presence of Peter Green's legendary Les Paul.

I got an appetite for lunch, 'cause me so hongry.

Only one prediction came true this time around.

Midnight Oil, Jane's Addiction, and Enigma are the three that were also in the previous 1990 set.

and that one was plenty -- but the set was still pretty bad.
-
Awful set. I'll BOS Midnight Oil if for no other reason than that I enjoyed it the first 1,000 times I heard it. But man.... not even a semi-hey to be found.
EDIT: Upon further review, I've upgraded this set to "Meh".
-
Renee's vote makes it a 2-way tie for BOS: Vanilla Ice & Gary Moore; VHM SRV.

I recently purchased a 5 cd collection of GM, including Still Got the Blues and Blues For Greeny, a collection of Peter Green covers. Pretty cool set, for like 12.99 (can't remember exactly what I paid, but it wasn't much).

Sure, it's awful, but everytime I hear it I picture Jim Carey on "Living Color" doing his "White White, Baby" parody, and it makes me happy.
-
Jane's Addiction "Been Caught Stealing"
WOS. I hate thieves.
-
TOTHK - SRV & Double Trouble "Superstition"
Did this chart in 1990? It was released in 1986...

Me too! ILC did a lot of great parodies of popular songs, and they also spoofed the videos.
Like so much these days, they're on Youtube, and watching a few of them back-to-back can
make for an entertaining half-hour.

WOS Blues Traveler.
Yet another artist that doesn't deserve the drubbing they get on this board. I can fully understand
not liking his stuff, especially if one doesn't care for harmonica. But you have to admit that he is
talented and can play it. For myself, I like most of his "hits," but they've largely moved into
the over-played category. I'd like to hear deeper cuts, but I don't enjoy his work quite enough
to buy any CDs.

I like it, and even bought the CD back then. I would put this into the vague "New Age" category,
which is another genre I enjoy. Tangerine Dream, Vangelis, Patrick O'Hearn, Shadowfax, etc.

I wish she would have played 2 Live Crew.

I would have suggested some Young MC. Stone Cold Rhymin' was released in 1989, but
I'm sure it was on the charts in 1990 and that's the year I associate it with (and since when
has the actual release year stopped RR before?)

Didn't AL play "Bust A Move" as part of an 89 set once? Now, that would've been a HAAAAAY! moment.

AL played a bunch of good, fun rap (that one, Sir Mix-a-Lot, Eminem). Much as I hate the Vanilla Ice hit, I'm assuming it's appearance means we might get some good stuff (but please -- no "Rico Suave").

To contradict the GS outrage, I was actually kind of glad to see its appearance amongst a bunch of tired AAA staples.

She replied "totes" to my FB suggestion about playing 2 Live Crew next time.

...on August 3, 2010 -- and it took BOS.

Ah, I like that song! Sure, the lyrics are stupid, but that criticism applies to many, many songs.
Consider just the music. There must be an instrumental version from a 12" single out there
somewhere. It's part of a whole genre -- goofy dance music. I'm Too Sexy, Macarena, Mambo No. 5,
Walk Like An Egyptian... it could be a 10@10 theme set!
