Yay! Too much '80s yesterday...
-
proxy of cairo to Anne Bancroft.
HM People, "I Love You".
-
"Jennifer Juniper" foretells Donovan running out of ideas two years later and reeling off some more name-plays: "Celia of the Seals," "Clara Clairvoyant," "Maria Magenta." Still a nice production.

BOS Donovan en francais! "Jennifer Juniper", mon amour!
followed by BOS2: "Street Fightin' Man". A fab set so far.

I wonder if the current generation of kids will have to be convinced that the Stones once had something to say.
-
I've never heard this "quicksilver girl" song before, can't place the voice. Think I'd rather be hearing Paul Revere & the Raiders, though.
-
"the policeman is there to preserve disorder..."
"Quicksilver Girl"? New to me.

Steve Miller?

Cocker's "With a Little Help" is one I've heard a few too many times. I thought it a tad overblown even when it was new.

Totally agree. And while "The Horse" got my hopes up, I'm more than happy to hear "Hang 'Em High." There's my BOS.

That's interesting... I know you've criticized "Time is Tight" for being an endless vamp that doesn't go anywhere. "The Horse" (which I also love) would seem to be in the same vein. Compare & contrast.

Actually, it's "Put It Where You Want It" that I've criticized for being an endless vamp that doesn't go anywhere (nice summary, btw). Maybe the difference just lies in my love of brass, I dunno ---

great anecdote in the Stax book I'm reading about how Brian Epstein visited Stax in '65/'66... supposedly the Beatles were thinking of recording there, and everyone in Memphis got all excited. Didn't ultimately happen, of course. The album in question would've been Revolver -- imagine "Got To Get you Into My Life" with the Memphis horn section. Oddly, author Rob Bowman notes, there is no mention of this in any Beatle book.
