Damn. I'd've guessed him older than 72 for some reason. He always seemed old to me when I was in high school -- must've been that voice of his.

And Rosalie is playing his "Here Comes the Sun". RIP.

RIP.

I watched Django Unchained over the weekend, with the strange inclusion of the "Freedom" towards the end.

agree w RGMike:  He seemed older.  His voice sounded so uniquely weathered and wise.

I lived on Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn right down the street from Prospect Park, and I saw him once in a free summer concert in  in that beautiful park.  It must've been in 1986.   He was from Brooklyn, btw.

I was fortunate to see him twice in the semi-early days.  First at Winterland, supporting the Chambers Bros.  (Note:  Buffalo Sprinfield broke up before this gig.  Some databases incorrectly show them playing this gig.  Albert King was added.)

I also saw him at the Fillmore West.  These are pre-Woodstock days.  When he sang "Follow" it doesn't get much better than that.

Lee Conklin drew some bizarre posters indeed. It seems as if the majority of shows I went to during a short period in '68 were Conklin posters.

Albert Brooks paid tribute to Richie on his Twitter feed and posted a link to this great old comedy bit about the time he was Mr Havens' opening act.

"RICH-ie! RICH-ie! RICH-ie!"
