Title: 2 April 2013: it's... 1988
Post by: RGMike on April 02, 2013, 09:49:43 AM
I'm expecting '90s, so anything else will seem like a treat.

"an Olympic year -- first time for freestyle skiing"  Well, thanks a lot, Tim.

Robbed Ford "Talk To Your Daughter"

I once robbed a Ford.  ;)

A little too SRV-ish, blooze-you-can-snooze for my taste, but it might be a bustout.

Can't say if it's a bustout but a nice surprise and definitely BOS worthy.

Haven't heard the Robben Ford tune in years; haven't missed it.

Haven't heard the Church tune in a day or two; won't miss it for a good long time.

not a bustout, as AL played the Smith tune multiple times, tho' it's still a treat. One of those songs that for some reason Dave ignored, even tho' you'd think it would be right up his alley.

If there was ever a song that could make Bobby McFerrin sound like Mozart, it's this one: WOS Kokomo.

Thanks, I wondered where that was from -- I didn't remember if there was a Buddy Holly tribute album that year.

McFerrin gets BOS according to Renee.

I suspect some bias in the results here. At the time she announced the BOS winner, there were no votes for DWBH on the FB page (although a couple of folks were griping about it), but it still won BOS. Hmmmm.

I tend to agree, even though it's a good earworm.  Like a catchy radio commercial.

no list yet?

I heard most of the set; pretty routine.

3. Robben Ford - Talk To Your Daughter
4. The Church - Under The Milky Way
(News: Jimmy Swaggart)
5. Robert Plant - Heaven Knows
6. UB40 - Where Did I Go Wrong
(News: The U.S./Russia thaw the Cold War)
7. Bobby McFerrin - Don't Worry, Be Happy
8. The Beach Boys - Kokomo
9. John Mellencamp - Rave On
10. Mike and the Mechanics - The Living Years

Listening to the replay. I enjoyed Mike & the Mechanics, so BOS for getting the lighters out. I also liked Robert Plant. Bobby McFerrin doesn't annoy me since I haven't heard it much on 10@10.

It seems reasonable to assume that the BOS voting is conducted with the same care and
consideration that Renee demonstrates in other aspects of 10@10.

A blah set for me.  McFerrin was certainly the flavor of the moment.  His hit song is emblematic
for that year, but not in good way.
