Clue #1: George Foreman Grill introduced (1994)
Clue #2: Dolly the cloned sheep (1996)
Does that mean Renee will meet halfway in 1995? ::)

Remember, she "doesn't do social media". (That will never grow old)

so they just metioned Braveheart and Pocahontas which are both 1995. Heh.

Clue #3: Braveheart wins Oscar for Best Picture. 1996

but the film itself was released in '95 as was Pocahontas. Greg mentioned the Foreman Grill again too. Jeezus.

Maybe the sheep was, um, germinated in '95.

TOTHK - Everclear "Santa Monica"

Hootie & the Blowfish "I Go Blind"
Well, it's Hootie, but it's NTM, so it could be much worse.

Natalie Merchant "Wonder"

From the "Friends" soundtrack, and of course did not chart until the tail end of 1996 (and then hung around forever into 1997 despite not going very high).

Natalie Merchant "Wonder"
I think I can hear FP screaming.

Hey, she was right....on average. ;)
Predicting early Wilco -- either Casino Queen or Box Full of Letters.

Well, it's Hootie, but it's NTM, so it could be much worse.
I agree, it's not one of their more overplayed ones. Maybe because it was out after they stopped being cool.
Is it a bustout?

Garbage "Queer"
-
Seal - Kiss from a Rose. Well this is a sledgehammer if I ever heard one (or is it a zeitgeist?)
It evokes memories of the summer of 95, fireworks, air conditioning, pizza delivery & pepsi.
EDIT: And she actually played it in the right year, not the "release year". :P

The rise and fall of Hootie & The Blowfish was the #3 phenomenon I missed while in Papua New Guinea.

BOS for Copycat. Gotta love Sigourney and Holly.

#2 was the ascendance of Ms. Alanis Morissette.
#1 wasn't music-related. It was related to something that happened in June 1994.

Speak of Alanis...
So, i'm guessing it wasn't Ricky stealing his 1,100th base...
Had to be OJ. (See Renee, you CAN learn things on the internet)

Yep, have to say that I benefitted from not being overexposed to that.

The Rembrandts "I'll Be There For You" (aka Friends theme)
-
Deep Blue Something "Breakfast At Tiffany's"
This is a Katrina in multiple years, as I recall. uber-LN, certainly.
-
BOS Alanis.
>:(
-
Deep Blue Something could work for "superhit six," I guess.
Do we have to count the Alanis song as a bustout? ::)
-
BOS Alanis.

I still don't care for her, but the only choice I'd argue would be if you BOS'd "Ironic" unironically. And she really was huge in '95.
-
Poe "Angry Johnny"

I want to say it's been played (the five hits have all been, IIRC), as has "Thank U". "Uninvited", "So Pure", "Unsent" and "Hands Clean" are still up for grabs.
-
Poe "Angry Johnny"
I wanna kill you, I wanna blow you.
Away.
Hahaha!
-
Poe "Angry Johnny"
BOS, and I do think her 10@10 debut.
-
BOS3 Poe. The return of the ever-reliable snoozy rarity.
-
OMC "How Bizarre"
-
This set should not have ended with the Otara Millionaires Club.

OMC "How Bizarre"
Egad, how many years does this song qualify for?

I'd have preferred:
Old Man's Child, a Norwegian Black metal band

I don't think there are many 90's tracks that I would BOS without at least a hint irony involved. It may be a personal failing, but I don't take post-80's music very seriously.

That's the saddest thing i've heard this month...

Poe "Angry Johnny"
I went to college with her (given name, Annie Danielewski). Some friends of mine suggested to her that I jam with her, but that never happened. Shoot, I COULD HAVE BEEN IN POE. Or in a band with Poe. Or something. (No double entendres intended.)

Yes, apart from Deep Blue Something it was decent. I'd put 3 and 7 higher, but that's just me.

And I'd give OMC a higher rating, but otherwise no arguments. We have hit an upswing in the curve it seems; the sets have been somewhat better the last few days. Luck of the draw, or are they starting to perform the due diligence necessary for 10@10 to succeed?

My alternative 1995 playlist:
1. Jon Spencer Blues Explosion - Flavor Part 1 & 2
2. Liz Phair with Material Issue - The Tra La La Song (One Banana, Two Banana)
3. Ben Lee - Pop Queen
4. Skee-Lo - I Wish
5. Poe - Trigger Happy Jack (Drive By A Go-Go)
6. Montell Jordan - This Is How We Do It
7. Emmylou Harris - Wrecking Ball
8. Tom Jones - Are You Gonna Go My Way
9. The Stinky Puffs - I'll Love You Anyway (tribute to Kurt Cobain, live featuring Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl)

With the exception of Emmylou, these songs were on actual mixtapes I had at that time.
