Could be '60s; could be '90s; could be a lameass "10@10 Goes to the Movies" thing for the Oscars.
ETA: it's '69. Expecting Zager & Evans, Stones, Beatles, Steam, "Suspicious Minds" and "Sugar Sugar"
-
Clue: Majestic Prince wins Kentucky Derby -- 1969!
-
But Renee's running late--they just started another song at 10:04, following the post-Morning Show ad load.
-
TOTHK - The Who "Overture / It's A Boy"
-
TOTHK - The Who "Overture / It's A Boy"
another ripped-from-Moreyland set, I suppose.
-
TOTHK - The Who "Overture / It's A Boy"
How come there aren't more rock operas these days? I guess there's American Idiot.
-
so, whose birthday is it?
-
The Rolling Stones "Let It Bleed"
-
so, whose birthday is it?
Don Pardo! (NTM George Washington)
-
so, whose birthday is it?
Don Pardo. He's 95 today.
-
Rare Earth "Get Ready"
-
will enjoy the rest, driving up to Santa Rosa

well, then i won't dedicate "Let it Bleed" to him ;) But BOS Stones.

LN1: Rare Earth.
BOS Rowan & Martin.
-
The Kinks "Victoria"
-
The Kinks "Victoria"
All hail the Queen!
-
always a BOS(2) for "Victoria". What a queen!

The Hollies "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother"
-
The Hollies "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother"
awww.... BOS3. Always lovely.
-
Steve Miller Band "Your Saving Grace"
-
BOS4 Steve Miller, probably our Rarity of the Day. The saving grace, you might say.
I have to bail momentarily for a meeting, but so far this hasn't been bad.
-
Steve Miller "Your Saving Grace"
I haven't heard a lot of early Steve Miller, but I like this. I can see why fans of this stuff would feel let down by the late '70's pop hits. Is this Steve on vocals?
-
The 5th Dimension "Aquarius / Let The Sunshine In"

Not sure. It doesn't sound exactly like him. Which brings up a question I was going to pose: Who is the British voice doing the spoken-word part about waking up and knowing you're blind? I always thought it sounded a little like Donovan, but that's just a guess.
-
VHM Goodbye Columbus -- Jack Klugman shoulda been Oscar-nommed for that role. "You kids today!"
I love "Aquarius" but AL played this one multiple times, so not terribly necessary. Best Pop Cliche of Set. And I'm off. Hope there's another surprise in store...
-
Of course this Age of Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine In is overplayed, but I love it anyway. I forgot the name of the fellow who plays the smokin' bass (especially on part 2), but I think he's in the session musician Hall of Fame and might have been part of the Wrecking Crew.

Grateful Dead "St. Stephen"

Grateful Dead "St. Stephen"
Just had to pull over to the side of the road and post. Holy shit!

Per the wikipedia page, these were the bassists who played in the Wrecking Crew at various times:
bass: Carol Kaye, Joe Osborn, Max Bennett, Chuck Berghofer, Ray Pohlman, Larry Knechtel, Lyle Ritz, Red Callender, Jimmy Bond, Bill Pitman
I recognize only two of those, Carol Kaye and Larry Knechtel (who played on the Partridge Family records, iirc), but I imagine it could have been any of these.

Grateful Dead "St. Stephen"

I'm happy at my desk!
And I think that's Steve doing all the bits in "Saving Grace". It never occurred to me that that might not be him. But I don't really know.
-
The Beatles "Here Comes The Sun"
-
Boz Scaggs "Loan Me A Dime" (featuring Duane Allman on guitar)

Really listening to the piano parts in this today. Constanten really added something to this band that they didn't get from Pigpen or Keith Godchaux, imo. Too bad he left so soon, but given the band's history of keyboard fatalities, it may have saved his life.
-
Boz Scaggs "Loan Me A Dime"
BOS. This is a classic.
-
Whoa!!!! Loan Me a Dime!!! This really is turning into a pretty fine set! Could all of our pissing and moaning finally be having an effect? (Of course, who knows if it will be reflected in the 80s and 90s sets that really need to be stirred up a bit?)
-
Well played set -- this has got DC's fingerprints all over it. Long set as well -- nearing the top of the hour!

The Internets knows all and sees all! (well, maybe it does.)
Per Wikipedia, the lead vocals on Your Saving Grace were done by Tim Davis, who wrote the song and played drums on the whole album. The spoken word part I mentioned was performed by producer Glyn Johns.

It was Joe Osborn who, as you noted, was part of the Wrecking Crew but is not in the Sidemen Hall of Fame. I think I researched this during another 10@10, and there were Internet commenters who felt it is a shame he's not in, and that's what stuck in my mind. He played on a long, long list of notable songs.

Per Renee: Boz Scaggs gets BOS, hands down.

Yes, good research. I was wondering where Steve had all of the sudden gotten all that range.
-

Don Pardo. He's 95 today.

I was a little surprised to hear Don's voice--I thought the decision had been made to cease using his clips when Dave retired in 08. I guess since he's still alive there's nothing preventing them from pulling them out now and again, at least as long as he's still around.
BOSes abound in this set: Kinks, Steve Miller Band, the Dead, Boz Scaggs--even the Beatles and 5th Dimension were nice to hear. Sounds like someone actually put a little more effort into song selection.

The Wrecking Crew wiki page is worth a read--quite a few notable players were part of that collective over the years. Lots of familiar names and some not so much. And some I knew but didn't know they were part of the group--like Mac Rebennack, Jim Gordon, and Mike Melvoin.

Is this the first time "Loan Me A Dime" was played in a year and not in a Tax Day themed set?

It appears in our database (Morey era) 4 times -- 3 Tax Day sets and one "SF in the 60s" set. Couldn't swear to how many times AL played it.
