What was that first song -- I liked it.

Could be worse. Could be 1985 and can I just say that hearing Katrina and the Waves today would be WAY tacky on several levels.
-
Just wouldn't be 1986 without John Cougar Boyscoutcamp. (Or had he dropped the "cougar" by 86?)
Btw, they just played Jack and Diane on the morning show around 8:30 or so. Is JCM another of those artists that's testing strongly in the wake of JACK?
-
"Rain on the Scarecrow" feels borderline tacky. Nevertheless BOS to JCM's best distillation of his populist rage.
-
BOS JCM, an '85 holdover. This album holds up very well IMHO -- for a guy who was considered kinda lightweight, he really went all-out to out-Springsteen Springsteen and make an Important-With-A-Capital-"I" album. Better than Born in the USA in some ways, actually.

Rain on the Superdome
Blood on the Bayou...

We used to acll him JC Melonhead, after the candy. just about anything that sold big in the '80s is a JACK staple, apparently.

And gave the world Farm Aid, which is now up to what, number XIX or so?
Dish alert: A few years ago, some friends of ours played a Farm Aid show (in Indianapolis I think, but I could be wrong). At one point during the day, they had occasion to ride in an elevator with JCM, who spent the entire time ranting about "these goddamn, motherfucking farmers...." So perhaps he's not so thrilled about having his career so closely linked with what's become something of an institution.

Well, if he wanted a more across-the-board superstardom, perhaps he shouldn't have followed with the smug "Pop Singer" as his lead single in '88 ...

BOS2 Chrissie & gang, one of their most delightfully pop confections.
-
Yeah, The Pretenders are getting a BOS from me.
-
uh-oh... Jackson Browne, trying to beat JCM at the populist rage game.

If this is the best we get in the "nugget" category today, I think I gotta vote with the Chrissie contingent.
-
ok, chrissie will have to share the vote with the blow monkeys. i know it's a katrina. or a narada. but i love it. and it's as close to r&b as dave will allow us to go.

I wonder if he talks shit about farmers while in the elevator, too.
