#10 Percy Sledge "When a Man Loves a Woman" -- it's a countdown. Where's Casey Kasem? ;)
-
"Hey 10@10 fan..."
ooo! a countdown! and from whence comes this list, Renee? Sure seems the lazy way to do a Valentine's set, ahtellyouwhut.
#10 "When a Man Loves a Woman"
If "At Last" isn't on this list I'll call bullshit.

Hi Gang! I am in today.
Before the set gets started...is anyone else aware Urth's cheese got spotlighted recently on Travel Channel? Anthony Bourdain has a show called Layover in which he spends 48 hrs in a city eating & exploring his way through town. His last week's ep was in Seattle, and while at Pike Place Mkt he was getting some cool cheeses. After sampling a couple things he asked the proprietress what else she would recommend that he should not miss, and she pulled out something from the Briar Rose Creamery in Dundee OR.
Yay for Jim!
-
#9: Pretenders, "I'll Stand By You"??
seriously, I like this song but no way it's on a Top Ten of All time list.
-
#9 Pretenders "I'll Stand By You"
-
WOS the Pretenders. #9 on the all time Annoying List, maybe.

good to "see" ya, bub!
Yes, it's been mentioned. In g-snipes if not here.

since she said this was based on a survey of...herself, I am guessing this was her wedding dance song.

That's cool. Sorry for being so out of the loop. But it's fun to be back for a day. Fwiw, my absence has been dictated by things going exceptionally well, and not vice versa.

Oy: Ghost clip into "Overplayed Cliche melody"
-
#8 Righteous Brothers "Unchained Melody"
-

DC sang it to her when he made her Music Director.
-
#7: "In Your Eyes". OK, I can see that being on a list, esp if we're talking KFOG's target demo.
-
#7 Peter Gabriel "In Your Eyes"
-
Well now...this ("Unchained..." from Ghost) is in my Top Ten All-Annoying in several categories!
Top Ten most overplayed Movie Soundtrack songs (especially if you ever lived in Asia...OMFG!...it is to this day played all over the place)
Top Ten least deserving Oscar Noms for acting
Top Ten (and maybe worst ever) Oscar Nommed film

This is def in my Top Ten for songs that I thought were cool before most people did, but which eventually achieved a cultural touchstone status that far exceeded my expectations.

We're hearing the Top 10 Sappiest Love Songs of the last 50 years, if you ask me....
Hey Mark, good to see ya! Thanks for mentioning the Bourdain thing! We were almost totally blindsided by that--only found out about 3 days before it aired, which was not enough time to get our inventory up to handle the demand. We're catching up now, but Sarah and her assistant are sick to death of making truffles.
PS Also nice to see Scarlett and the twins! Glad that some things don't change.

Well major kudos anyway. I was barely paying attention from the next room while everybody else was watching, but when I saw that I jumped up and made Christina & the boys rewind the DVR several times. I got so excited Christina accused me of being drunk!

Well the Postal Service certainly came out of nowhere.
-
#5 The Postal Service "Such Great Heights" - really?
-
Wow, now this is from way out in left field for sure, but I will BOS the Postal Service any day.
-
Well the Postal Service certainly came out of nowhere.
proving she really did make this list up out of whole cloth.

partial jinx!

#4 Billy Joel "Just the Way You Are"
-
#4: BJ, certainly makes sense for this to be in a Love Song Top 10.

Having graduated HS in 1980, I can tell you that this was the final slow song of every HS dance I ever attended (well maybe it was "Babe" by Styx for senior prom).

And Renee's #1 Love Song of All Time is...
"Something".
Yeah, I can live with that.
-
Shit...I was seriously going to predict this being #1, but got a phone call & couldn't get the post in. You'll have to take my word for it.
ETA: Some years back I posted the following My 3 Songs, which might be a bit more obvious in this context:
"Something" - The Beatles
"Drive" - The Cars
"These Dreams" - Heart
-
"just a pleasure" -- the pleasure was all yours, Renee.

-

Dear Jebus, I'm afraid to read on.
EDIT: Well, of course I wound up doing so anyway. Will still skip the replay. If you're going to do a personal countdown, you at least need fabricate something. Or at least Renee needs to.

Jeez! not even Chrissy gets a snark-free pass?
;)

I certainly don't need to hear it more than once a year, but I'll defend it vigorously as a piece of stellar, old-school songwriting. Sinatra covered it for a reason, and he was rather picky about "contemporary" tunes.
As to the Pretenders, it's one of their weakest, the-record-company-made-us-do-it tracks, tho Chrissie's vocal is fine -- she can sing the phone book. And iirc they didn't even write that one.
