Renee was in high school. "Music some will love and some will hate" well, duh.
I have to bail before 10:30 -- I'm not exactly heartbroken. (esp now that I know it's '87)
-
I know from somewhere that she's a year ahead of me... so I'd say 1987.
-
1987 - leads off with U2 in God's country
-
"In God's Country".... pleasant enough, if a FF.
-
The original "True Faith" is Song 2.
-
New Order "True Faith"
-
Jim & Tammy & Jerry & Jessica.
LN: New Order, and the segue from PTL to "True Faith" has been done multiple times
"When I was a very small boy
Michael Jackson talked to me"

What... were you expecting something completely different?
-
True Faith: kind of LN, but one of my top ten songs of all time, so I'll give it a pass.
-
Bourgeois Tagg "I Don't Mind At All"
-
Bourgeois Tagg (I can't remember how to spell that): It was an interesting 10@10 add, once.
-
BOS Bourgeois Tagg Romney.
-
The Cure: See my comments w/ New Order
-
The Cure "Why Can't I Be You?"
-
Bourgeois Tagg (I can't remember how to spell that): It was an interesting 10@10 add, once.
true. I remember being overjoyed the first time Dave played it. It has appeared quite a few times since in both the DM and AL eras.
-
LN2 The Cure, "Why Can't I be a Bustout?"
-
LN2 The Cure, "Why Can't I be a Bustout?"
Certainly less familiar than most Cure songs, though nearly identical musically to Love Cats. You could practically sing the words to Love Cats to this song.
-
Suzanne Vega "Luka"
-
Suzanne Vega's worst (and of course, most successful single), "Luka". Blorf
-
Suzanne Vega's worst (and of course, most successful single), "Luka". Blorf
Better than Luka Bloom anyway.

I never hated it, but I also never need to hear it again. LN3.
-
Paul Carrack "Don't Shed A Tear"
-
BOS Paul Carrack
-
Wow, unexpected BOS2 Paul Carrack.

Yep, a BOS from me for the hometown boys, as well. Not the thrill it once was, but I still really like this song. They are still, imo, the best band to get signed out of Sac-burg.

Is this a bustout? Can't remember it appearing here before.
-
INXS "New Sensation"
-
as I exit for a 10:30 meeting: uber-uber-LN4 INXS.
-
Grateful Dead "Touch of Grey"
-
BOS, The Dead. Feeling the inner hippie today.

I'll square the ubers for "Touch Of Grey"
-
The Bangles "Hazy Shade of Winter"
-
The Bangles "Hazy Shade of Winter"
Actually a fairly decent choice... fits the era perfectly.
-
What the...? Fleetwood Mac "Don't Stop"
-
What the...? Fleetwood Mac "Don't Stop"
Yah, don't get it. It's too early for the Clinton campaign.
-

Yah, don't get it. It's too early for the Clinton campaign.
Don't be so critical.... it's from a year that ends in a 7.
-
Slip of the fingers sez Renee.
Echo & the Bunnymen "Lips Like Sugar"
-
What the...? Fleetwood Mac "Don't Stop"
Yah, don't get it. It's too early for the Clinton campaign.

Oh Renee... *shakes head sadly in disappointment* I try to be fair, but...
A slip of the finger indeed.
-
How is "Lips Like Sugar" next to "Don't Stop"? Mind-boggling. And good song, but a FF fo sho.

They must be going apeshit over at the GS. I've put a moritorium on fb at work for myself, so I can only imagine.

Do you think she did it on purpose? A raised middle finger, rather than a slip of the finger, to her critics? Don't Stop has the appropriate lyrical content as well as being one of the all-time frequent fliers to serve such a purpose perfectly.

I honestly don't think she's clever enough to pull off a stunt like that.

I think it is possible. Kind of like the Saturday night live skit where Shatner tells the Trekkers to get a life at a Trek convention.
Ahem.
-
Paul Carrack gets BOS, Suzanne Vega and Grateful Dead get VHM, sez Renee

Not to mention it would be a kind of inappropriate, and not particularly clever, stunt to begin with. It would be intentionally taking a crap over 10@10, and while it seems she doesn't really care to make it awesome like Dave & AL did, on the same token I can't imagine that she'd care enough to intentionally shit on it either.

Remember, just because it's not particularly clever, doesn't mean RR is clever enough to do it. ;)

You guys are starting to sound like DW.

I don't know, man. When someone loses her temper, a lot of ethical standards get thrown overboard. And RR sure seems to have quite a temper. But DW may be taking it to a whole 'nother level.
Rage Against the Machine, anyone?

BOS, The Dead. Feeling the inner hippie today.
I saw the list, scrolled back expecting to find Mike dissing the Dead, and I guess he went to his meeting just in time! Thanks for keeping the hippie flame alive Rod. If one was around then, "Touch of Grey" was truly a phenomenon. I remember hearing it at Candlestick Park during a Giants game, and it electrified the crowd. Of course, that was a good time for me, when 2 of 3 of their stringed instrumentalists were playing my stuff:

so's not to disappoint: I think it is one of the most boring songs ever -- and I'm a guy who loved them in the early '70s. It's all their classic back-in-the-day melodies thrown into a blender and slicked up by Clive Davis' minions. Which is why it was their biggest (and only Top 40) hit. Sorry.
